Heidi Behrendt, LICSW
Philosophy of Care
Heidi Behrendt is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the states of Vermont and New Hampshire with 15 years’ experience in the human services field, with 5 years providing direct therapy services to children ages 6-12, adults ages 18 to 65+, and couples. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College, Northampton, MA in psychology and child studies and her Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California focusing on mental health and military social work.
Heidi takes a person-centered, strengths-based approach, beginning the therapeutic journey by assisting you to identify the strengths and coping skills you already have and explore how those are currently working for you. Heidi’s goal as a therapist is to assist you in enhancing your skills, identifying patterns that no longer work, and to help you to achieve your goals. She considers it an honor to assist you in unlocking roadblocks to healing and assisting in uncovering layers of personal growth and potential.
Heidi uses a variety of therapeutic techniques tailored to meet your specific needs which include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches, with a strong emphasis on active listening, compassion, and validation.
Heidi seeks to offer a warm, caring, therapeutic alliance in which you are able to move towards healing, healthy adjustment and balance.
