Meet our Counselors

I began my journey in social and human services many years ago when I got a job working for the local mental health center in Tennessee. Working with people struggling with diverse diagnosis from schizophrenia to moderate depression was very important in my development. From there I was employed in addiction as a case manager for a few years; managing half way houses, learning 12 steps and traditions of A.A. and experiencing the power of addiction over people.
After I left that center I worked as an intake/admissions counselor for Cumberland Heights, where I remained for a decade. While there I worked in utilization review, mobile assessment, and eventually moved to the financial department to work directly with clients and their accounts. This opportunity allowed me to understand and develop not only clinical skills but financial, sales, administrative, insurance, contracts and interaction between multiple internal and external referral sources. This gave me a lot of insight when I eventually opened my own business.
I completed my bachelor’s degree while working full time at Cumberland Heights and then entered the master’s program at Trevecca University. After completing the masters I moved to Houston, TX. I spent eight years there continuing my experience in a treatment center as the financial manager while attaining my internship hours then working for myself, and eventually opening my own business. I had an exceptional mentor who was my supervisor for my LPC and LMFT in Texas.
I recently moved to Michigan and have moved my LMFT, my LPC will follow soon. I have learned over the years that I enjoy the diversity of couples, interfaith, inter- cultural and GBLTQ community. I observed the family programs within treatment centers and found a major issue within the programs. There was a lack of focus on the marriage or partnership; the newly recovering person returning home and the differences are daunting to both. I have found a lot of success with these families.
My passion and studies led me to study diverse religions and cultures. In that capacity I work very well with interfaith couples or families seeking to understand each other as well as intercultural issues. Working in the diversity of Houston, I had several wonderful opportunities to express and experience interfaith struggles and come to terms with decisions on parenting, which traditions to raise children, not being bullies by parents of elders of religions but offering an outside point of view, helping with the division of generations in cultures and expectations and a variety of ways of doing therapy.

When you receive an annoying email, how do you react? When your child brings home a bad report from school, how do you deal with it? When someone says something hurtful and unexpected to you, what is your reaction? There are so many troubling and bothersome events that happen in our day to day lives, it can be difficult to keep our head above water. We may begin to feel like the whole world is against us, we can’t catch a break, and there’s no way to get a “win.” When life begins to feel this overwhelming, it may be very helpful to enlist the help of a licensed, professional Thriveworks Ann Arbor counselor or therapist. This person can be your life raft, your confidant, and your sounding board. We can help you wade through the unpleasantries of life.
When life coaches or counselors evaluate the need for counseling or therapy, we often measure functioning from a -10 to a zero. A person at a -10 would be nearly unable to get out of bed, make decisions, hold a job, or communicate effectively. A person at a 0 would be mostly free of mental health issues such as depression or panic attacks. No matter what your current state, a Thriveworks Ann Arbor counselor or therapist can help you improve your daily functioning and find victory over your mental health issues.
At Thriveworks Ann Arbor, MI we also specialize in coaching, which is where we help someone move from a 0 to a +10.
