About
I am a clinically experienced Nurse Practitioner with Compassion, Empathy, and Attentive listening Skills in treating and managing clients with various mental illnesses. I understand how mental illness affects clients and will use a holistic therapeutic approach to deliver quality care.
My name is Judith Uwazuruonye, DNP, APN, PMHNP-BC. I bring 22 years of RN experience, including four years as a psychiatric charge nurse and three years as a PMHNP-BC. I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism, eating disorders, conduct and oppositional defiant disorders, and adjustment disorders across the lifespan. I have a particular interest in adolescent care — teens navigating identity, stress, anger, and confusion need a provider who understands that stage of life. I provide culturally competent, patient-centered care across inpatient, outpatient, and correctional settings.
I use a holistic therapeutic approach that combines compassionate listening, psychoeducation, medication management, and individualized care plans. I am empathetic, a good listener, and committed to creating a warm, welcoming environment where clients feel supported. My goal is to help each client make meaningful progress toward better mental health.
I am an experienced provider offering a holistic therapeutic approach and patient-centered care for the best quality results.

I believe healing begins with feeling truly seen and heard, and as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I combine evidence-based care with genuine compassion to support each person’s unique journey toward mental wellness.
I'm a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) providing compassionate, evidence-based care. I have 6 years of experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning across outpatient, community mental health, and telepsychiatry settings. I hold an MSN in psychiatric-mental health. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults navigating anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, and adjustment difficulties. Many clients seek relief from persistent symptoms and greater stability, while others want a safe space to explore their experiences and develop coping strategies.
My goal is to partner with each client to create a personalized treatment plan that may include psychotherapy, medication management, lifestyle interventions, and ongoing support. I believe in a collaborative, holistic approach that honors each person's unique story while empowering them to achieve their mental health goals and improve their quality of life.
I want you to know that your feelings matter—and I truly see where you're coming from. I understand how important it is to feel supported, and I'm here to help you take the next step with confidence. If you're ready, I'd love to connect so we can explore how we can work together to make things easier for you.

Psychiatry can help with depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, and more. Unlike talk therapy, it focuses on treating mental health conditions mainly through medication aimed at reducing specific symptoms, like persistent sadness, low energy, or trouble concentrating.
You don’t need a diagnosis, or even a clear sense of what’s going on, to get started. Your first psychiatry session often focuses on understanding what you’re experiencing, exploring a possible diagnosis, and talking through your options, which may or may not include medication.

You’ll find forms in your Thriveworks account that ask about your health history and how you’ve been feeling. Filling them out before your session allows for more time in conversation.
They’ll ask about your symptoms, health history, current medications, and anything you’ve tried before. Together, you’ll set goals and map out a treatment plan. If medication is a good fit, they may prescribe it, and you can pick it up at your pharmacy.
You and your provider will schedule follow-ups, often monthly. They’ll check how your medication is working and any side effects, and can adjust your dose or try a different medication if something needs to change.
If you’d like to add talk therapy, your provider can refer you to a therapist in our network. Your providers can work together on your care.
If your provider’s approach or style isn’t a good fit, tell them. They can adjust, or you can switch to another psychiatric provider in our network.
It’s OK to switch if it isn’t clicking. Call 833-966-4293 and our team can help you connect with someone new.

Yes, in most cases. Thriveworks accepts more than 360 insurance plans, and most cover psychiatric care. Many patients pay a copay of $0 to $55 per session.
You can check your coverage before you book, with no commitment. We also verify your provider is in network ahead of your first session.
The one thing we can’t do for you is prior authorization, which some plans require before care starts. If you’re not sure whether you need prior authorization, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask, “Do I need approval before starting psychiatric care?” They’ll be able to walk you through exactly what’s needed.
Medication coverage is separate from session coverage, so it’s worth asking your insurance company about prescription drug benefits, including any copays or deductibles that may apply to psychiatric medications.
You can still get care. Self-pay rates for psychiatry are $300 to $375 for your first session and $210 to $300 for follow-ups, depending on your state.
Each provider’s profile shows their exact rate. If you’d rather talk it through, call us and we’ll confirm your rate before you book. Here’s our self-pay breakdown by service and state:
Often within days. Availability depends on your provider and location, but many patients book their first session the same week, and sometimes the same day. You can see open times on each provider’s profile and book online, or call us and we’ll help you find the earliest opening.
Yes, you can do it online. Most Thriveworks psychiatry happens online, and in-person sessions are available at select locations, including: Chesapeake, VA; Fort Worth, TX; Charlotte, NC; Paramus, NJ; Toms River, NJ; Edison, NJ; Cherry Hill, NJ; Houston, TX; Red Bank, NJ; Durham, NC; Greensboro, NC; Williamsburg, VA; Richmond, VA; Tampa, FL; Chesapeake, VA.
No, medication is not required. Your first psychiatry session, which lasts 45 to 60 minutes, is a conversation about what you’re experiencing and what you want help with. If medication makes sense, you and your provider decide together.
Our psychiatric providers primarily focus on medication management, so if you’d rather start with talk therapy, we can connect you with a therapist. Not sure where to start? This guide breaks down the difference between seeing a psychiatrist vs. a therapist.
Tell your psychiatric provider. Depending on your situation, they might adjust your dose, switch you to a different medication, or add a second one.
Never change or stop your medication on your own. Your provider can help you do it safely.
Both psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. The main difference is their educational path: psychiatric nurse practitioners start in nursing and add specialized psychiatric training, while psychiatrists go to medical school and then specialize in psychiatry.
At Thriveworks, our psychiatric nurse practitioners practice under the supervision of board-certified psychiatrists. In some states, a nurse practitioner is able to practice independently, just like a psychiatrist.
Yes. For some conditions, including depression, research shows combining therapy and medication works better than either treatment alone. At Thriveworks, your therapist and psychiatric provider can work together, so your care stays coordinated.
Yes. We follow federal HIPAA rules to protect your health information and keep it in secure systems. Your information may be shared with the people involved in your care and with our billing and administrative teams, but it doesn’t go anywhere else without your permission, unless the law requires it.
You can cancel or reschedule up to 48 hours before your session at no charge. If you cancel or reschedule with less than 48 hours’ notice, don’t show up, or arrive late (more than 10 minutes for a 30-minute session, or 15 minutes for a 60-minute session), there’s a $135 fee.
Insurance usually doesn’t cover this fee, so it would be billed to you. Read the full cancellation policy.
