Antipsychotics work by blocking dopamine in the brain, which helps reduce the frequency and severity of psychotic symptoms.

What is brexpiprazole (Rexulti) used for?

Brexpiprazole (Rexulti) is used along with other medications to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) or depression. It is also used to treat schizophrenia and agitation due to dementia in people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Does brexpiprazole (Rexulti) cause weight gain or loss?

Yes, taking brexpiprazole may cause weight gain—in studies of the medication, this was a common side effect. Brexpiprazole may also cause reduced appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, which can cause some weight loss if they are serious. How long does it take for brexpiprazole (Rexulti) to start working?

Although brexpiprazole starts working soon after you take a dose, it may take a few weeks of treatment before you notice an improvement in your condition. How long it takes brexpiprazole to work also depends on your response to treatment, the severity of your condition, your dosage, and other individual factors. How long does brexpiprazole (Rexulti) withdrawal last?

Brexpiprazole isn’t known to cause withdrawal symptoms. However, do not suddenly stop taking the medication without talking to your provider.
