What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Kelsey Quinn
Kelsey Quinn

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy by practicing skills outside of sessions and engaging in complimentary activities like healthy socialization.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in family therapy?

Taylor Klein
Taylor Klein

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

I know a client is making meaningful progress in family therapy when there is a noticeable shift in communication patterns and relational dynamics within the family. This can manifest as increased empathy and understanding between family members, more effective conflict resolution skills being utilized, and a greater sense of cohesion and support within the family unit. Additionally, I observe progress when family members demonstrate increased insight into their own roles and contributions to the family system, as well as a willingness to explore and address underlying issues collaboratively. Ultimately, meaningful progress is evidenced by positive changes in the family's interactions, emotional climate, and ability to adapt to challenges together.

What should someone do to prepare for starting couples/marriage counseling?

Alyssa Quann
Alyssa Quann

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

To prepare for your first couples/marriage counseling session, you can reflect on your relationship historically. Take time to think about the areas of your relationship that need improvement but also focus on the areas of strength in your relationship as we want to build on this foundation moving forward.

What tools do you teach in depression counseling?

Kelsey Quinn
Kelsey Quinn

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

I teach a variety of techniques and tools in depression therapy, including grounding techniques. Grounding techniques are skills to utilize when in high emotional states to help ground the person in the present rather than being stuck in the future or the past.

What is your go-to approach for anxiety therapy?

Kelsey Quinn
Kelsey Quinn

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is to use CBT techniques as well as mindfulness techniques. I enjoy using CBT, as it can help provide an insight into anxious thoughts or anxious behaviors, and mindfulness helps separate the client from their struggles.
