Get to know Brittany
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become one because in my personal life I have had friends who have had mental health struggles. I saw how much counselors helped them, and I realized I wanted to do that work.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who have anxiety and depression, since it is what I have most experiences in.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with any client. No two clients are the same. Every client has their own background, and it is such a privilege to learn about each person's journey.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew they have strengths. Every client has strengths that can and will be used to help meet their goals.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks, because of the opportunity to work with diverse clients. Also, I chose Thriveworks because of their value on counseling. Thriveworks specifically states in their mission statement that "everyone can benefit from counseling". I truly believe that. It is so important that is emphasized, because it helps de-stigmatize mental health and going to counseling.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by everyone I met. Everyone has their own story and has their own struggles and accomplishments. I am especially inspired when someone who has goes through a challenge or a tough time is able to meet a goal or has an accomplishment.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect the first session with me starting to get to know them and asking them what led to their referral to Thriveworks.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want the individual to be able to identify their needs and goals, and what they want to get out of therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
They should know I am open-minded, and I believe they are the expert of their own lives. My role is to help guide them and help them identify and utilize their strengths to meet their goals.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time with friends and family.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am open-minded and I love to learn. I love reading and watching different things, including fiction and non-fiction.
