How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

Marie MoriartyPuggi
Marie MoriartyPuggi

Licensed Associated Professional Counselor (LAPC)

Progress in therapy is more than just a feeling; it is about behavioral and well-being changes, such as an increased positive mood, fewer symptoms of conditions such as depression, having better ways to manage anxiety or triggers, adjusting goals and objectives, or feedback in sessions; you will be more aware of your feelings, emotions, actions, and decisions as you live your life.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement child therapy?

Marie MoriartyPuggi
Marie MoriartyPuggi

Licensed Associated Professional Counselor (LAPC)

Clients can supplement their time in child therapy by attending groups of interests and finding hobbies, clubs, or sports that have purpose and meaning for them.

What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

Marie MoriartyPuggi
Marie MoriartyPuggi

Licensed Associated Professional Counselor (LAPC)

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is acknowledging the awkwardness one feels at times doing telehealth for the first time. I prefer to ease into the sessions by explaining the process and finding out what their thoughts were coming into therapy in this modality.

What should someone do to prepare for starting family therapy?

Victoria DiPinto
Victoria DiPinto

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

To prepare for the first family therapy session, families can identify how they handle conflict with one another, and how much time they spend together. This information will help me determine the cohesiveness and communication styles within the family.

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can make a note of how and when you experience anxiety, and how you experience anxiety in your body.

What tools do you teach in cognitive behavioral therapy?

Marie MoriartyPuggi
Marie MoriartyPuggi

Licensed Associated Professional Counselor (LAPC)

I teach clients the following tools in CBT:
  • Cognitive restructuring or reframing: This involves taking a hard look at negative thought patterns and how to fix them.
  • Guided discovery: This allows you to challenge your beliefs and broaden your thinking. You might be asked to give evidence that supports your assumptions, as well as evidence that does not.
  • Exposure therapy: Can be used to confront fears and phobias.
  • Journaling and thought records: Writing is a time-honored way of getting in touch with your own thoughts.
  • Activity scheduling and behavior activation: Activity scheduling can help establish good habits and provide ample opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice.
  • Behavioral experiments: Typically used for anxiety disorders that involve catastrophic thinking.
  • Relaxation and stress reduction techniques: Deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation.
  • Role-playing: This can help you work through different behaviors in potentially difficult situations.
  • Successive approximation: This involves taking tasks that seem overwhelming and breaking them into smaller, more achievable steps.

What Is the Difference Between Therapy, Counseling, and Psychiatry?

Therapy, provided by our counselors and therapists, addresses emotional and behavioral challenges using therapeutic techniques for mental well-being. Counseling, offered by counselors or therapists, focuses on specific issues and life adjustments, while psychiatry, led by our psychiatric nurse practitioners, involves diagnosing and treating mental health conditions with medication.

What Are the Types of Therapists You Can See?

While availability may vary, at Thriveworks Counseling & Life Coaching Philadelphia, we offer:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs): Specialized in social work and counseling for individuals, families, and groups.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs): Focused on relationship and family-related issues.
  • Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs): Trained to offer counseling services for various emotional and mental health issues.

When you connect with a provider at Thriveworks, you’ll be sharing your experience with an industry-leading expert; someone with the experience and professional insight you need to move forward.

How Do I Find the Right Therapist near me?

To find the right therapist or therapeutic approach at Thriveworks Counseling & Life Coaching Philadelphia, browse our provider profiles, or contact your local office at (215) 642-8968 to discuss your needs and preferences with our helpful support team.

  • Overwhelming grief after a significant loss
  • Frequent mood swings, anger, or irritability

  • Struggles with addictive behaviors or substance abuse
  • Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
  • Overwhelming feelings of guilt, shame, or worthlessness

Don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our providers if you’re feeling any of these symptoms.

What Are the Benefits of Online Therapy and In-Person Therapy?

The benefits of online therapy include:

  • Convenience and accessibility from anywhere
  • Reduced travel time and costs
  • Comfortable and familiar environment
  • A wider selection of therapists to choose from

The benefits of in-person therapy include:

  • Face-to-face interaction and non-verbal cues

  • Communicate openly and non-judgmentally
  • Offer support and encourage them to seek professional help
  • Research and connect them with appropriate resources
  • Be patient and maintain a supportive presence throughout their journey to recovery

Our experienced therapists, counselors, and psychiatric nurse practitioners can assist—don’t hesitate to have the individual you love seek help and support.

Are the Therapists at Thriveworks Licensed and Verified to Provide Therapy?

Yes, all of our therapists, counselors, and psychiatric nurse practitioners are licensed or in the process of receiving their licensure.

How Much Does Therapy Cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
