About Chigozie

I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with 2 years of experience supporting individuals navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. I strive to create a safe, steady space where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to move toward clarity and healing. My work centers on helping people build confidence, regulate emotions, and reconnect with their strengths as they take meaningful steps toward personal well-being.

I earned my doctoral degree in nursing from Chamberlain University. My approach integrates evidence-based, person-centered treatment with practical tools that help clients make real progress. I draw from cognitive behavioral strategies, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based practices to support emotional balance and long-term resilience.

You deserve a space where you can breathe, feel heard, and begin healing at your own pace. Whether you are exploring past experiences, developing coping skills, or seeking greater stability, I am here to support you with compassion and clarity. If you’re ready, I’d be honored to help you begin your next steps toward growth, confidence, and lasting change.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a psychiatric provider because my personal and professional journeys have taught me how deeply people need to feel understood, supported, and truly seen. As a woman who has walked through trauma, rebuilt after divorce, and raised an autistic child, I understand the emotional weight, the advocacy, the exhaustion, and the fierce love that come with navigating complex challenges.

These experiences shaped the way I show up in my work. They taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of creating a space where people can be honest about what they’re facing without fear of judgment. Becoming a psychiatric provider allows me to blend clinical expertise with real-life understanding, offering care that’s compassionate, trauma-informed, and grounded in lived experience.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are ready for a supportive, collaborative, and down-to-earth approach, people who want to feel understood, not judged.

I’m especially helpful for individuals who are navigating, depression and emotional exhaustion, trauma and life transitions such as divorce, binge eating and emotional eating, neurodiverse families and individuals seeking integrative mental health care

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing isn’t about being perfect — it’s about giving yourself permission to grow at your own pace.

Progress is rarely a straight line. Some days will feel lighter, some heavier, and both are part of the process. What matters is not how fast you heal, but that you keep showing up for yourself, even in small ways.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You don’t need the “right words.” You don’t need to be strong every day. Healing begins the moment you allow yourself to be honest, supported, and human, and you deserve that kind of space.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In your first session, we’ll focus on understanding you as a whole person , your experiences, challenges, and goals. I’ll ask about your mental health history, daily life, and what brought you to me , creating a calm, judgment-free space where you feel heard and supported.

In the early stages of therapy, we work together to build trust, clarify your goals, and create a personalized plan for care. This may include coping strategies, evidence-based techniques, lifestyle adjustments, and, if appropriate, discussions about medication options. You can expect a collaborative approach where progress is measured in ways that feel meaningful to you.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is shaped by a combination of personal experience, deep empathy, and a commitment to meeting people exactly where they are. As a divorced woman who has walked through trauma, I understand what it feels like to rebuild yourself piece by piece. As a mother of an autistic child, I know the emotional, practical, and systemic challenges families face — the advocacy, the patience, the overwhelm, and the love that keeps you going.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by taking the time to truly understand each person’s story, strengths, challenges, and goals, and then building a plan that fits their life, not the other way around. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Instead, I use a mix of evidence-based approaches, practical tools, and compassionate conversation to create a style of care that feels personal, collaborative, and empowering.

My goal is always the same: to understand what matters to you, honor your pace, and create a space where you feel supported, respected, and guided toward lasting change.
