Philosophy of Care

Congrats on making your mental health a priority! If you are ready to address underlying issues and put in the work, then you’re in the right place. If you need support and guidance through a challenging time or you are ready to move in a new direction in your life, therapy is a great first step. With compassion, empathy, a little humor and a safe environment, we will work together identifying issues, gaining insights into unhealthy patterns, setting goals for the future and making the changes you desire for a more fulfilling life.

I have experience with a wide variety of populations, demographics, substance use disorders, and mental health illness. I support clients through life transitions as they contend with the challenges of adolescence, current and past trauma, assuming the responsibilities of adulthood, adjusting to marriage, parenting, divorce, aging, loss and grief and retirement.

My purpose is to provide a safe space for you to explore the painful circumstances you find yourself experiencing. Then, empower you to make the changes that will lead you to a more fulfilling and peaceful life. It will be my honor to guide and support you along your journey of creating a happy, healthy you.

Ashley Harms, LMHC, CAP

Philosophy of Care

Perhaps you struggle with intrusive, racing thoughts that prevent your full functioning. Maybe these thoughts have even led to negative behaviors that you wish to change like substance use, compulsive spending, codependency, gambling, inability to get out of bed, insomnia, or other areas of impulsivity. Some of these thoughts might even go unnoticed, existing unconsciously, and yet they still seem to overtake your rational mind. Maybe you are a couple or family struggling with not being on the same page, resulting in some discord and you don’t understand how to make the situation better because it seems like everyone has the same goals with different routes of obtaining them. Perhaps you are in your early twenties and struggling with what has been coined as a “quarter-life crisis,” and need guidance and insight into what steps to take next. Maybe you have recently retired and are struggling to get out of bed in the mornings without having a job to go to and wonder what your new life is supposed to look like. If you want to live a happy, fulfilling, and purpose-driven life resulting in your full functioning and potential as an individual, parent, child, or partner, therapy will help.

Ashley Harms is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Addiction Professional, and Certified Recovery Coach. Ashley has extensive experience in working with adolescents, adults, couples, families, and geriatric populations in the areas of mental health and substance use. Ashley found herself called to this field due to her own life experiences that were conquered, and she is driven to help others achieve their own, self-identified goals. Ashley takes a person-centered, non-judgmental approach to therapy and seeks to educate and empower her clients to best guide them to their ideal place of functioning.

Starting any new relationship poses certain challenges and fears, let alone reaching out for help in a vulnerable situation. Ashley will welcome you with a warm smile and ease the process as much as possible. Scheduling a phone call or email to get an appointment set up is the first step, and once this step has been made, the subsequent ones seem to flow much easier. In an APA study in 2004, the results showed that 48% of Americans sought professional mental health help, and it can only be assumed that the number has grown in the last sixteen years. Begin the journey that your future self will thank you for today.
