Get to know Jane

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I always wanted to get back to Art and use my Art degree somehow while using one of my strengths- empathy. For years I had talked about it with family and friends. My mom passed, saw that she needed counseling and I knew I had to go for my dream. That experience had me thinking of the increase of aging adults and their needs. Senior communities with Alzheimer, dementia, cancer survivors going through chemo or in remission. From there, I reached my dream and opened my experience to many populations.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Children and Adults.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Children and Adults.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Art is a nonverbal form of communication.  It is a vehicle for communication. It is beneficial. It allows you to reduce stress, deal with emotions, resolve problems and conflict.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

The positive work-life balance and employee support.

What inspires you?

Helping others is what truly inspires me. Small actions can create meaningful change. Knowing that my work directly contributes to improving lives motivates me to push harder every day. Learning new things. I am inspired by the pursuit of knowledge.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect feeling at ease and comfortable. A client can expect warmth, caring and understanding.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to get to know my client and build a rapport with my client in the first session so they fell at ease and comfortable in a therapeutic setting.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I like to find the humor in what life throws our way and I'm a big advocate for self care. We all need to take time out of the day for self care.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Travel, painting, drawing, trivia, and recently going to sound meditation classes for relaxation, clarity and wellbeing.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Thinking about what defines you is crucial in understanding who you are, what is important to you and how you should act in your everyday life. Your past, present, and future do not define who you are or your character and neither do other people's perceptions of you. You should always focus on the things that truly matter in your life, rather than worrying about what others think of you.
