Starting Anxiety therapy

What is anxiety therapy?

Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Sterling Heights, MI can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.

How does anxiety therapy work?

Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Sterling Heights therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.

How to deal with anxiety?

One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what's really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.

Symptoms of anxiety

Common symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Sense of impending danger
  • Nervousness/restlessness
  • Trouble focusing
  • Excessive sweating
  • Shaking
  • Headaches
  • Stomach issues
  • Fatigue
  • Panic attacks
  • Increased heart rate

What is the best therapy for anxiety?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.

Is anxiety therapy conducted in person or online?

Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual's preferences and their therapist's availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.

How long does anxiety therapy last?

On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that's being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.

Is therapy worth it for anxiety?

Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.

Need more help deciding?

A lot of us know what it feels like to experience anxiety, or severe worry, be it about a stressful project at work, a nerve-wracking conversation you have to have with your significant other, or even due to the unknown. To be more specific, imagine:

  • You are told to come up with a fresh, new marketing campaign to promote a new product at work. But you’re struggling to come up with ideas, and you are scheduled to make your proposal tomorrow. As the time passes, your anxiety rises.
  • You were just diagnosed with diabetes, and you’re nervous to tell your girlfriend the news. You worry that she will feel embarrassed of you or think that you have too much baggage. Your anxiety is at an all-time high as you dial her phone number.
  • You always feel on edge. You feel anxious at work, at the grocery store, even at home with your family. You aren’t sure what causes your nearly constant state of anxiety.

These imaginary scenarios might hit a little close to home. As you might feel anxious from time to time or even every single day. In either case, anxiety can harm your mental health and overall wellbeing, unless you learn how to manage it. If you feel anxious from time to time (or all the time) and you aren’t sure what to do about it, consider working with an anxiety therapist or psychologist at Thriveworks Sterling Heights.

Do I Have Anxiety? Signs and Symptoms

Some feel anxious daily, while other experience anxiety every now and then, or as a result of a specific trigger. We made this pretty clear above. • Excessive, uncontrollable worry
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Racing, uncontrollable thoughts
  • Excessive sweating
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia and other sleep issues
  • Trembling

These symptoms can be worrisome, and therefore, make your anxiety even worse! If you feel anxious (be it on a daily basis or every now and then), you should talk to a professional about it. My overall experience has been as expected when dealing with behavior healthcare. There is no real care for the patient and their needs. I spent an hour on the phone with a call center rep from the billing department who said I had no insurance on file, then proceeded to transfer me to the correct department who said I did. I have been without medication that was prescribed on Monday. When I received a call back from the psychiatrist, it seemed that your company forgot to send it over. That is unacceptable behavior when it comes to dealing with any customer.

It's a wonderful experience working with Cornelia Golden. She presents a healthy balance of comfortability and professionalism. She listens with the intent to hear what is being said and yet hear what's not being said. Cornelia has a very calming presence and I feel both confident in her counseling skills and that my concerns are professionally cared for. She is a very capable counselor. Clients will greatly benefit from working with her. I am happy to write this review for Ms. Cornelis Golden.
