Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor when I was 10-years-old. I didn't know the word "counselor" back then, but I knew that I wanted to help people like my aunt.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with client's who are willing to try new things in between appointments and who are ready to come back to share with me about their experiences with trying those new things.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who truly believe in their own ability to make the kind of life they want for themselves, and who just sees me as a "helper" rather than "fixer".
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish clients knew that they are the best resource on themselves. I don't have a magic wand to miraculously fix things. But together, we will work as a team to help them meet their goals.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of their core beliefs and their value of teamwork.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by watching client's embrace their own power and resiliency.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The FIRST session can be daunting! So they can expect me to try my darndest to put them at ease! They can expect housekeeping stuff in the beginning, like going over informed consent, confidentiality, various policies. But once the "administrative" stuff is over, they can expect me to step into their world and to really listen and understand what brings them in for services. They can expect for me to make them feel "safe".
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I want to establish a sense of connection and teamwork. I want clients to walk away feeling that they were seen and heard by me and that I truly believe in their ability to make positive changes.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Non-professionally, I am defined by my faith.
