Starting Anger management therapy

Can you get a therapist for anger issues?

Yes, there are therapists who help with anger via Anger management therapy. It's a therapeutic process that an individual goes through to manage their anger and identify its triggers. They're given clear instructions to improve their angry behavior as well as a safe space for opening up about their emotions.

How does anger management therapy work?

Once an individual's triggers are identified, anger management therapy focuses on helping the individual process and respond to these emotions in a more positive and productive manner. The anger management therapist will provide coping strategies and ultimately help their client take back control of their anger.

What are the 5 keys to controlling anger?

The five 5 keys to mastering anger includes identifying triggers, pausing before reacting, calmly expressing emotions, discovering constructive outlets for frustration, and seeking professional assistance if necessary. Acquiring these skills through Anger management therapy empowers individuals to effectively manage and navigate their anger.

What is the best therapy for anger management?

The best therapy for anger management often involves cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps individuals identify and change patterns of thinking and behavior related to anger.

Is anger management therapy conducted in person or online?

Anger management therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How many sessions do I need for anger management?

Often, Anger management therapy lasts between 4-6 weeks. However, it can last longer, dependent on the individual's needs.

What Is Anger? Do I Have Anger Issues?

We’re all familiar with this emotion. Anger is natural, and we experience it when we’re hurt, experience an injustice, or are just plain frustrated. Common indicators of anger include quick breathing, a fast heart rate, and hot flashes. When we’re hit with anger, we often react physically: We cry, we scream, we lash out at loved ones; we also learn to take deep breaths, journal about our feelings, and talk about our anger in a calm manner. It’s all about learning to process and communicate your emotions properly.

Some people are aware of their out-of-control anger. Others think that their anger is normal and okay when it’s actually harmful to them as well as the people around them. If you’re unsure whether your anger is healthy or unhealthy, consult the following list of signs and symptoms of out-of-control anger:

  • Feeling like you always have to hold back your anger
  • Arguing often with loved ones and coworkers
  • Getting into trouble with the law
  • Inciting or participating in physical violence
  • Exhibiting crazy behavior like throwing and breaking things

If you show the above signs and symptoms of out-of-control anger, it’s important that you learn to better control your anger, so as to stop it from hindering important areas of your life. If you are in Macomb County or the surrounding area, consider working with an anger management therapist at Thriveworks Sterling Heights, MI. We can offer you a next-day appointment, all you have to do is call in to schedule it.

How Can Anger Management Counseling Help Me?

As with any obstacle in life, struggling with anger problems is not an easy or fun journey. It’s important that you know you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. An anger management counselor can help you regain control over your anger and therefore your career, your relationships, your personal happiness, and more. They will help you understand your unhealthy angry reactions, early signs of anger, and better responses to anger. Self-awareness is key to your success, and they will help you work on this important skill.

Anger management is not about repressing your emotions; instead, it’s about accepting your emotions and learning to express them in a healthy, productive manner. Managing your anger well will require practice, especially if you developed unhealthy habits long ago. Don’t worry—the anger management counselors at Thriveworks Sterling Heights are confident that they can help you.

My overall experience has been as expected when dealing with behavior healthcare. There is no real care for the patient and their needs. I spent an hour on the phone with a call center rep from the billing department who said I had no insurance on file, then proceeded to transfer me to the correct department who said I did. I have been without medication that was prescribed on Monday. When I received a call back from the psychiatrist, it seemed that your company forgot to send it over. That is unacceptable behavior when it comes to dealing with any customer.

It's a wonderful experience working with Cornelia Golden. She presents a healthy balance of comfortability and professionalism. She listens with the intent to hear what is being said and yet hear what's not being said. Cornelia has a very calming presence and I feel both confident in her counseling skills and that my concerns are professionally cared for. She is a very capable counselor. Clients will greatly benefit from working with her. I am happy to write this review for Ms. Cornelis Golden.
