Starting Addiction counseling

What is Addiction counseling?

Addiction counseling therapists at Thriveworks in Sterling Heights, MI can help people manage their urges to use the substance or engage in the activity they're addicted to. In addition, it can help people manage the challenges that stem from their addiction from relationship issues to problems at work as well as those that their addiction may stem from like trauma.

How does Addiction counseling work?

Addiction counseling at Thriveworks in Sterling Heights, MI works by helping one understand the underlying causes of their addiction, teaching them coping strategies, and recognizing their specific triggers. Long-term or ongoing addiction counseling can also help to prevent relapse.

Is Addiction counseling conducted in person or online?

Addiction counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does Addiction counseling last?

The length of addiction counseling depends on the individual's needs as well as the extent and severity of their addiction as well as the problems that might stem from it. That said, people can make meaningful progress in addiction counseling in the first weeks to months.

Need more help deciding?

Anyone who has ever dealt with an addiction knows just how crippling it can be. This disease is characterized by an intense focus on using a certain substance or engaging in a specific behavior. For example, the most talked about addictions are drug and alcohol addiction; there are also, though, addictions to gambling, shopping, and more. Unfortunately, these individuals become so fixed on the substance or behavior that they aren’t able to resist the urge to use or engage. And climbing out of this downward spiral can feel impossible.

“Although difficult, change is always possible. What holds us back from making the changes we desire are our own limiting thoughts and actions.”

Fortunately, there are effective treatments out there for those with addiction issues, one being counseling. Addiction counselors and psychologists develop a personalized plan for recovery for each individual they work with. They also offer unwavering support to their clients, which is crucial to this recovery process. Additionally, addiction counselors help individuals to maintain sobriety when they reach this milestone.

Are you in Rochester, looking for addiction help? If you are struggling with an addiction, an addiction counselor or psychologist at Thriveworks Sterling Heights in Macomb can help you. They will work to check all of the boxes we just detailed above: they will develop an individualized treatment plan just for you; they will support you through the process; and they will help you to stay sober in the later stages of recovery. • Develop an effective plan for helping one to manage symptoms of addiction
  • Provide nonjudgmental, lasting support for clients
  • Administer drug tests to ensure the individual isn’t using the substance
  • Incorporate affected friends and family members in treatment

  2. Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT): DBT is also helpful in addiction recovery, as a main focus for these therapists is helping their clients to develop effective coping strategies for stressful situations, unlike turning to an addictive substance or behavior.

My overall experience has been as expected when dealing with behavior healthcare. There is no real care for the patient and their needs. I spent an hour on the phone with a call center rep from the billing department who said I had no insurance on file, then proceeded to transfer me to the correct department who said I did. I have been without medication that was prescribed on Monday. When I received a call back from the psychiatrist, it seemed that your company forgot to send it over. That is unacceptable behavior when it comes to dealing with any customer.

It's a wonderful experience working with Cornelia Golden. She presents a healthy balance of comfortability and professionalism. She listens with the intent to hear what is being said and yet hear what's not being said. Cornelia has a very calming presence and I feel both confident in her counseling skills and that my concerns are professionally cared for. She is a very capable counselor. Clients will greatly benefit from working with her. I am happy to write this review for Ms. Cornelis Golden.
