Need more help deciding?

“The moment you change your perception, is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.” -Dr. Bruce Lipton

When you’re stuck in traffic on a Monday morning, there’s a lot to pay attention to. There are cars driving around you, the project you’re not quite done with, and your relationship at home that was strained when you left this morning.

But even then, those are only the external factors. Internally, your heart rate may be accelerating, your breathing coming more rapidly. Your body is flooded with stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Then comes your thoughts and emotions, amped up by the physical stress of your body and casting disillusioned thoughts on you like I’m not good enough. I should just quit. Everyone around me are idiots.

Then there are the internal ramifications of these thoughts and emotions- how you perceive yourself and how that subtly but powerfully impacts how you move through this world. Your self-image can unconsciously aid or stop the aversive physical and mental symptoms you might be feeling.

Modern medicine can usually take care of the physical side effects. A prescribed drug here and there and you’ll be good to go. Typical therapy understands and unravels the cognitive and behavioral aspects of living.

But what deals with the kind of soul-deep hurt and inflections living can give us?

And aren’t all three aspects undoubtedly connected? They spur one another on for both positive and negative changes.

This connection is becoming increasingly researched and applied in counseling sessions. Thriveworks Colorado Springs believes in treating all of you. Every aspect is important and intrinsic in recovery and growth.

Holistic counseling is a form of counseling that draws on all three tiers of our self, while tying in personal situations and culture. It is a way to treat all of you, because all of you is important!

What Is Holistic Counseling?

Holistic Counseling with Thriveworks Colorado Springs is a way to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves.

It may sound complicated, but there are two basic tenants that guide much of the Holistic Counseling experience:

  • Acceptance
  • Relaxation

Importantly, it is a very self-guided therapy. Colorado Springs Holistic Counselor’s job is to help you realize how each component of you works together in harmony and teach you skills to support daily function and your goals.

But the true power of Holistic Counseling is you. As such, it is a very individualized counseling that varies greatly based on different situations and cultural preferences.

A few common practices in Colorado Springs Holistic Counseling with Thriveworks includes:

  • Yoga Therapy (see here for more information)
  • Walking therapy
  • Realigning diet and exercise regimen
  • Mindfulness
  • Breathwork
  • Guided Imagery
  • Talk Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Journaling
  • Spiritual Counseling (Give us a call if you have questions about spiritual counseling sessions drawing from a specific religion like Christian Counseling)

Of course, these are only a few of the practices our Colorado Springs Holistic Counselors can guide you through if you decide to take the leap into Holistic Counseling. It can feel overwhelming- you were concerned about maybe one or two aspects of yourself, but now we’re telling you there are three whole tiers?!

Yes, but it is more than manageable! Colorado Springs Thriveworks strives to be empathetic and client-focused first. This means every session will be geared to you and your situation. We will meet you where you’re at, and nowhere else!

Is Holistic Counseling for me?

You might be feeling a bit out of your element reading this. You’ve never done yoga, or meditated, and mindfulness is a new concept to you.

That’s okay! In fact, that’s a great place to start. Holistic Counseling is all about acceptance. Accepting where you are currently, where you want to be, and what is keeping you from getting there.

Marianne Clyde, a renowned Holistic Counselor, explains it like this:

“There is nothing wrong with you. You are already whole, perfect and complete. There are just some little pebbles stopping the flow in your life. Those pebbles (Ok…some are boulders.) are beliefs and behaviors that might have been true at some time in your life but are no longer true and are not working for you. It’s our job to figure out what they are, change them and get you unstuck.

Colorado Springs Holistic Therapy will not work to merely eliminate your symptoms. Instead, your symptoms are a path we can follow into the deeper hurts and beliefs that are keeping you from living your best life. This personal awareness is incredibly powerful.

They say the first step is recognizing you have a problem. Well, the second step is knowing what that problem is. Combined, these are two huge steps. Holistic Counseling focuses on these two steps, and then prepares you with tools so you can get back to the path you want to be on.

Holistic Counseling will focus on the question: Who are you now, in this moment?

There is no judgment and, in the beginning, no drive to change. It is merely accepting your current state and noting it.

Our clients have found healing and growth through Holistic Counseling for many different reasons. A few of them include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Anger Management
  • Life Transitions
  • Mood Regulation
  • Trauma
  • Physical symptoms that aren’t linked to a medical condition
  • Pain Management/Chronic Illness
  • Much more!

Even simply wanting to better yourself is a fantastic reason to try Holistic Counseling with Thriveworks Colorado Springs. Our counselors are excited to meet you and begin this journey together. When you’re ready, give us a call to start on the path to freedom and unrealized potential.

Jerry was amazing! Jerry uses choice theory in order to help his patients grow and work through their problems. Choice theory was helpful through my relationship counseling but also could be used individually to helps each person grow themselves. Jerry used real scenarios in order to water down the theory, making it less scientific and more geared toward individual use. Jerry was patient, helpful, and very understanding.
