Starting Therapy for men

What is Therapy for men?

Therapy for men maintains a focus on the emotional and mental impacts of being a man in society, dealing with issues like the pressures of toxic masculinity and the traditional familial roles of men, among others. Thriveworks Colorado Springs therapists who specialize in treating men work to create a safe space for them to emote and care for their mental well-being without fear of judgment.

How does Therapy for men work?

Therapy for men has many aspects of traditional psychotherapy, but also maintains a clear person-centered and humanistic approach. Thriveworks Colorado Springs therapists will work with men to reach their therapy goals through self-reflection and introspection—uncovering specific emotional, behavioral, and mental patterns that are having a negative effect or are inhibiting personal growth and slowly working to change them over time.

Is Therapy for men conducted in person or online?

Therapy for men at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does Therapy for men last?

Therapy for men can last for a few months or occur over the course of years, often continuing until the client feels that their goals are met and their desired growth has been achieved. However, it will likely last at least five months, as that is the average amount of time it takes for the therapeutic process to take effect and bring about lasting change.

Need more help deciding?

Men of all ages and ethnicities are less likely than women to seek help. Why is this? There is no biological reason, of course. Do men have fewer conflicts, frustrations, depression or anxiety? Of course not. Maybe society to blame for men not getting help? Traditionally, society demands men to be independent, tough and unemotional. Studies have shown that two thirds of outpatient appointments are with women. This inability or reluctance in men to get help will affect a man’s mental and physical health, their relationships and careers. This is clearly a problem!

We recognize the historical, social and cultural factors that go into a man deciding to seek counseling. We work to normalize counseling, similar to a physical checkup, or having dental work done. Counseling and life coaching is also preventative, such as seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis. Talking with a counselor prior to, during or after a life adjustment can prevent negative coping habits and keep people feeling well and achieving their best.

Jerry was amazing! Jerry uses choice theory in order to help his patients grow and work through their problems. Choice theory was helpful through my relationship counseling but also could be used individually to helps each person grow themselves. Jerry used real scenarios in order to water down the theory, making it less scientific and more geared toward individual use. Jerry was patient, helpful, and very understanding.

Thrive has helped my husband so much. He has vestibular issues and it creates bad balance problems. It also has created left side weakness and he has had to use a cane to assist him with walking and stairs. Since being treated at Thrive, he only uses his, cane with stairs now and on occasion when he isn't feeling that well. His balance has improved abiut 65% also. His moods are much better now also since he can get around better by himself! Thank you Thrive for all you have done for my husband and our family!
