What is your go-to approach for cognitive behavioral therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in cognitive behavioral therapy is to help them understand the specific nature of their challenges and how those challenges can be successfully dealt with through a sensible positive mindset. I enjoy this approach because it relies on principles of human behavior and cognition that have been powerfully demonstrated through extensive research. That's why it is so likely to lead to improvement in my clients' lives.

What tools do you teach in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I make use of the following tools in cognitive behavioral therapy:

  • Mindfulness meditation to promote greater awareness of one's thoughts and feelings.
  • Successive approximation to promote a focus on and appreciation of any degree of improvement.
  • Identifying helpful self-statements to repeat in order to counteract habitual negative thoughts.
  • Visualizing successful behaviors to help to make them a reality.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in cognitive behavioral therapy when they are able to report greater satisfaction with their life, specifically with the challenge that brought them to seek therapy.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement cognitive behavioral therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in cognitive behavioral therapy by cultivating an awareness of the many positives in their life, whatever they may be (such as talents or abilities, supportive friends or family, valued pets or possessions, etc.), and allowing themselves to feel gratitude for some time each day for whatever those positives may be.

What should someone do to prepare for starting cognitive behavioral therapy?

To prepare for their first cognitive behavioral therapy session, an individual can list for themselves what their main challenges are and what they would like their goals to be.

Starting Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

What is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

At Thriveworks, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely recognized and evidence-based form of psychotherapy or talk therapy. It focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors that can contribute to various mental health issues or challenges that people are struggling with.

What does a cognitive behavioral therapist do?

Cognitive behavioral therapists specialize in Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and can help you to identify and comprehend your thought patterns, which often encompass automatic negative thoughts, cognitive distortions, and self-defeating beliefs. Once these negative thought patterns are pinpointed, cognitive behavioral therapists aim to challenge and replace them with the objective of fostering more constructive and logical thinking. In addition, these therapists place significant emphasis on implementing positive behavioral changes based on the newly established, healthier thought patterns.

What is CBT best for?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is particularly effective for addressing conditions like anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. It focuses on identifying and modifying negative thought patterns and behaviors, making it well-suited for issues related to distorted thinking and emotional regulation.

How much does a CBT session cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

What is the success rate of CBT?

The success rate of CBT varies depending on the intentions of the client and their condition(s).

What is better: CBT or DBT?

The selection between cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is based on an individual’s unique needs and challenges. CBT is commonly chosen for addressing conditions such as anxiety and depression, whereas DBT is especially beneficial for individuals dealing with borderline personality disorder, emotional regulation issues, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships.

Is CBT conducted in person or online?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with our Thriveworks therapists in Bensalem, PA is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How many sessions is CBT?

Generally, CBT is considered a short-term therapy, typically lasting for about 12 to 20 weekly sessions. In some cases, it might extend to around 16 to 20 sessions for more complex issues.

Cassie is an exceptional therapist! She was extremely understanding throughout and approached my issues in a way that made me feel heard. Cassie has many skills and helped me with coping strategies to get me through my challenges. I do not know how I would have got to where I am now without her support.

I wasn't sure what to expect from therapy, but Jamie put me at ease right away. She is a generous listener who let me explain my situation and my feelings about it without any kind of judgement. She patiently led me through the difficult path of healing, giving me concrete steps to take to process what happened and to move forward. I would recommend her to anyone, no question.

Jamie walked with me through a very difficult period in parenting a child with a chronic illness. She listens well, is compassionate, and helped me reframe my thinking when I was particularly discouraged and stuck. The fact that she could also integrate faith into our conversations made all the difference. I highly recommend working with Jamie!

First met frank in the mid 80's as he came to Phoenix Arizona as a certified surgical technologist & worked with him there in a level 1 trauma center. It wasn't much after his stay in Phoenix he returned to Philadelphia where he then became Philadelphia fire fighter, and his effort of doing that excelled to peaking position as Captain for the PFD. As a friend of Frank through all his dedication and motivation to higher education , that his commitment & dedication hadn't already been in progress . But as a friend to see what he has done and become to his educate himself to helping people in the community is second to none. But more than anything he's a great person and to have him as my friend all these years seen what he's done to keep helping people in the private sector, bravo frank !
