Sharon completed her master’s and post master’s degrees from Wilkes University. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She began her career working as a registered nurse at a long-term state psychiatric hospital and a state prison. Her career path seemed to align with seeing patients that required mental health intervention. She acquired much mental health experience at those jobs and that is the reason she pursued the psychiatric focus for her higher education.
During the psychiatric evaluation Sharon seeks a thorough understanding of your symptoms, past and present, in order to identify potential causes, including any medical or biological factors that could have caused the issues you are having. She will discuss past medications that you have tried and therapies that have worked and not worked for you. She will discuss potential side effects if medication is prescribed, and your feelings about taking medications. She will provide an appointment that is relaxed and low-key so you can remember all that you would like to discuss. She will listen attentively. Sometimes the tension of having a mental health appointment with a provider causes an enormous amount of stress. Sharon believes that building a trusting rapport with her clients is a very important part of success in treatment.
