What is your go-to approach for anxiety therapy?

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is to invite the client to bring more awareness to their body sensations. It may sound strange, but people often harbor an unconscious fear of anxious feelings, which tends to perpetuate anxiety. Once they are able to accept their anxious feelings, I help them to evaluate the actual challenges in their life in order to determine what the risks really are. I find it helpful to guide clients to realistically face their challenges because that usually results in the realization that their life is really quite manageable, which helps to puncture the power that anxiety has had over them.

What tools do you teach in anxiety therapy?

I teach the following tools in anxiety therapy:

  • Body awareness
  • Conscious breathing
  • Identifying and assessing challenges
  • Visualization of a safe space

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when they are able to report feeling more at peace with themselves and their life.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement anxiety therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy with journaling their feelings and trying to obtain a sufficient amount of sleep each night.

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can make a list of the worries or concerns that keep you from enjoying your life.

Starting Anxiety therapy

What is anxiety therapy?

Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Bensalem, PA can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.

How does anxiety therapy work?

Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Bensalem therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.

How to deal with anxiety?

One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what's really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.

Symptoms of anxiety

Common symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Sense of impending danger
  • Nervousness/restlessness
  • Trouble focusing
  • Excessive sweating
  • Shaking
  • Headaches
  • Stomach issues
  • Fatigue
  • Panic attacks
  • Increased heart rate

What is the best therapy for anxiety?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.

Is anxiety therapy conducted in person or online?

Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual's preferences and their therapist's availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.

How long does anxiety therapy last?

On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that's being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.

Is therapy worth it for anxiety?

Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.

Need more help deciding?

It’s safe to say that many of us know what it’s like to feel anxious or excessively worried. Say, about a meeting with your boss or a tough conversation you have to have with your spouse. Let’s take a closer look:

  • You’re told by a fellow coworker that your boss wants to meet with you in an hour. They don’t offer any further details, which sends you into a nervous and anxious mess.
  • You just found out that you have type II diabetes. You were pre-diabetic, so you knew that it was a possibility, but it still hits you in the gut. You feel super anxious about telling your parents the news.
  • You constantly feel on edge when you venture out in public. Long lines, crowded areas, loud chatter—it all sends you into a delirious state of anxiety.

Do these examples hit a little too close to home? Do you feel anxiety at work, in your relationships, in social situations, or elsewhere? This might make you feel nervous or unsure about your future. The good news, though, is that an anxiety counselor or psychologist at Thriveworks Bensalem in Bucks County can help you to manage your anxiety, regardless of when you experience it or what triggers it.

Are you looking for Bucks counselors? We are careful about who we choose to partner with. The anxiety counselors and therapists at Thriveworks Bensalem are skilled, caring, and experienced providers who offer personalized care to every single client they see. They will help you find hope and healing, despite how distant that might feel right now. Call Thriveworks Bensalem today to schedule an appointment or hear more about our services.

How Do I Know if I Have Anxiety? Signs, Symptoms

Some feel anxious on a day to day basis. Others are triggered by specific circumstances, such as social situations. Still, determining whether you actually have anxiety can be difficult. Some people convince themselves that it couldn’t be anxiety—it’s just mere nerves or something else. But oftentimes, it is anxiety that needs or could benefit from treatment. Here are some common signs and symptoms:

  • Excessive, uncontrollable thoughts
  • Irritability
  • Trouble focusing
  • Racing thoughts
  • Sweaty palms
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep problems
  • Trembling

These symptoms can prove difficult and affect important areas of your life. If you are experiencing any combination of the above, you should consider talking to a professional so you can get the treatment that you need. An anxiety counselor or psychologist at Thriveworks Bensalem can help you to explore these symptoms, potential causes and triggers of your anxiety, as well as the best remedies. Additionally, they can discuss different anxiety disorders with you, such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and others.

How Does Anxiety Counseling Help?

The anxiety counselors at Thriveworks Bensalem will take a look at your specific case of anxiety and then offer individualized treatment. Together, you will work to develop and understand the best plan for managing your anxiety. The process often involves talking about and changing negative thinking patterns (a bad habit many of us are guilty of).

To help you better understand how anxiety counseling works, a counselor might analyze your negative thinking habits and assess its snowball effects. For example, if you call yourself a loser every time you make a simple mistake, this could lead to anxiety about trying new things. Your counselor will help you understand this role of negative thinking, and perhaps more importantly, how you can change this habit.

Cassie is an exceptional therapist! She was extremely understanding throughout and approached my issues in a way that made me feel heard. I wasn't sure what to expect from therapy, but Jamie put me at ease right away. She is a generous listener who let me explain my situation and my feelings about it without any kind of judgement. She patiently led me through the difficult path of healing, giving me concrete steps to take to process what happened and to move forward. I would recommend her to anyone, no question.

First met frank in the mid 80's as he came to Phoenix Arizona as a certified surgical technologist & worked with him there in a level 1 trauma center. It wasn't much after his stay in Phoenix he returned to Philadelphia where he then became Philadelphia fire fighter, and his effort of doing that excelled to peaking position as Captain for the PFD. As a friend of Frank through all his dedication and motivation to higher education , that his commitment & dedication hadn't already been in progress . But as a friend to see what he has done and become to his educate himself to helping people in the community is second to none. But more than anything he's a great person and to have him as my friend all these years seen what he's done to keep helping people in the private sector, bravo frank !
