As a woman of color, I understand the challenges that this brings to our lives. I have experience working with people of color of all ages especially those struggling with depression and anxiety. I use DBT skills and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy during therapy during my sessions. I also have experience with working with victims of any crime for many years.
Greetings! My name is Lenda. I am a bilingual counselor. I have been a counselor for eight years. I chose this career because I personally know someone who struggled with mental health. It is gratifying seeing how my clients have shown progress and achieved a better life throughout my work with them. I have gained experience in working with individuals who struggle with depression and anxiety symptoms on a daily basis. I also have worked with victims of sexual abuse and other crimes. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills in sessions. I continue taking training to better help my clients.
My approach is for clients to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more constructive ones. Challenge distorted thoughts. Use of interventions between sessions. Objectives are set and measured regularly to monitor client progress. Mindfulness is used in sessions to help clients manage emotions, anxiety, and impulsive decisions.
Sounds like you have gone through a lot, please allow me to help you heal through a gentle and peaceful session. I want you to know that you matter and your feelings are important. Therapy is a safe place to explore your concerns at your own pace.

My go-to approach for helping people in PTSD/trauma therapy is first and foremost to help them feel listened to. I want them to feel safe to discuss whatever their trauma was, to whatever extent that they are able to. I offer EMDR as one approach to treating their trauma, but I do not insist on that approach. I want the client to feel safe to explore their trauma however they wish. I find the best benefit in this approach because each person's trauma is unique and needs to be approached for healing in the most sensitive and understanding manner possible.
I teach the following tools in PTSD/trauma therapy:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in PTSD/trauma therapy when they are able to report that the emotional intensity of their traumatic memory has dissipated over time.
Clients can supplement their time in PTSD/trauma therapy by practicing self-affirming visualizations and nurturing themselves in general, such as by associating with supportive friends or family.
To prepare for their first PTSD/trauma therapy session, someone can try to have faith that the power that their trauma has had over them can and will recede in time.
At Thriveworks, Trauma/PTSD therapy involves dedicated efforts to address and navigate through past and/or recent traumatic events. Therapists specializing in trauma create a secure environment to process and heal from these experiences, aiming to reduce trauma-related symptoms and enhance overall quality of life.
Our Thriveworks providers use Trauma/PTSD therapy treatments like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing EMDR, CBT, and exposure therapy with the goal of helping clients process the traumatic events they have experienced so that they can to start feeling safe and secure again.
The symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can vary but often include:
The best way to overcome PTSD triggers is to seek the assistance of a professional therapist, such as those at Thriveworks, who can help you to understand and treat your PTSD triggers.
In most cases, a therapist who specializes in Trauma/PTSD therapy is the best type of mental health professional to address the symptoms of PTSD.
PTSD/trauma therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
If a client is working through a single traumatic event that occurred as an adult, trauma or PTSD therapy may only take a few months, but in general, it can take a year or more to effectively treat trauma symptoms and PTSD. The duration of treatment is highly dependent on the client and the severity of their symptoms.
The success rate of therapy for PTSD depends entirely on the individual’s symptoms, commitment to attending sessions, and personal abilities.
