Starting Life coaching

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is a personalized support system that helps individuals clarify goals, develop action plans, and navigate challenges. Coaches employ effective communication and active listening to assist clients in overcoming obstacles, unlocking their potential, and achieving personal growth for a more fulfilling life.

How does life coaching work?

In life coaching, our coaches utilize diverse therapeutic techniques that are tailored to individuals, including cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, mindfulness, and positive psychology approaches. They also utilize active listening and empathetic communication to provide a supportive space for you to explore and achieve personal goals and overcome challenges, fostering personal growth and clarity.

Is life coaching conducted in person or online?

Life coaching with our therapists in Knoxville, TN is conducted both in person and virtually via online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does life coaching last?

The number of life coaching sessions someone attends can differ based on the coach and the client’s choices. How many sessions are needed and how often they occur often hinges on the client’s objectives and the complexity of their concerns. Some clients might opt for a few sessions to tackle particular goals or issues, while others may decide on ongoing coaching sessions to work on personal growth and life enhancement over a more extended period of time. Thriveworks Knoxville therapists work with clients to create goals and potential timelines for treatment.

Need more help deciding?

What did you want to be when you were little? Where did you imagine you would live? Most of us do not realize the dreams we have when we are kids for a number of reasons. Maybe they were totally unrealistic. Of course, our desires and goals can change, and maybe we developed different priorities. However, little pieces of our childhood dreams can still be with us as adults. We need not put every dream on the shelf. Sometimes, our hectic daily lives disrupt the vision we have for our future.

Thriveworks Knoxville life coaching can help you sift through the noise and remember your goals. They may need adjustment from what you thought your life would be when you were a child. We can help you set realistic goals, understand the blocks that are preventing you from achieving those goals, and develop a plan for real change.

Making the Decision to Seek a Life Coach Isn’t Always Easy

You may feel anxious or fearful about making the first step in creating the life you want. Perhaps you know that there are some difficult choices or changes that need to be made, and you feel nervous about actually making these changes. Perhaps you are unsure if you should take the time for yourself to work with a life coach. Make that time. Make that change. Call a Thriveworks Life Coach today.

Be Cautious When Seeking A Knoxville Life Coach

We see the term “life coach” a lot in recent times. We also see advertisements for health coaches, lifestyle coaches, personal coaches, and others. Unfortunately, there is no governing body in Knoxville, TN — or anywhere — that requires certain licensing or education for those calling themselves a “life coach.” This means that literally anyone in Knoxville can start calling themselves this, without any experience or professional license. This is a dangerous situation for someone seeking a life coach without any knowledge of what they should look for.

At Thriveworks Knoxville life coaching, we are not only life coaches, but we are also licensed mental health professionals. Every life Knoxville-based life coach at Thriveworks has the education and has passed the professional licensing requirements to obtain this license. This is very important to know, and means that you can trust that Thriveworks Knoxville life coaches are experienced, educated, and ready to work for you. We are leaders in our field, and would greatly enjoy putting our expertise to work for you.

Your dreams and goals are important. You should not trust them with just anyone. When you conducted the search that you brought you to this page, you were probably inundated with information and options. This can be very overwhelming. You need not look any further. We are trustworthy, educated, experienced, and licensed life coaches.

Growth Focus at Thriveworks Knoxville Life Coaching

If you could change your life overnight, what would be different when you woke up?

  • Where would you go?
  • What would you do for work?
  • Who would your friends be?

These are often called “Miracle Questions” in life coaching. Exploring the answers to these questions can help you determine and communicate the goals for your life that you have buried deep down inside. Many things get in the way of accomplishing our goals. Financial burdens, illness, stressful relationships, simply daily life; all of these can disrupt us from really being intentional about our future. An experienced life coach can help you wade through the distractions and develop a clear vision for your life.

Were You Unable to Answer the Miracle Questions Above?

It can be difficult to come up with the answers to these questions. If you are unable to answer them, you are not alone. This is very common and an experienced life coach can help you work through the blocks that prevent the answering of these questions.

Counseling usually attempts to bring a client from pain to healing. Alternatively, life coaching usually works to bring a client from neutral to positive change. In counseling, a scale can be used to measure satisfaction in different areas of life. We can measure this from possibly a negative ten to a positive ten. A -10 would be very painful, and 0 would be neutral. Life coaching works to take a person from neutral to possibly a positive 5 or even a 10.

There are many areas that we can measure our satisfaction or disappointment in life.

These include:

  • Physical Environment
  • Career
  • Finances
  • Health
  • Friends and Family
  • Romance and Intimacy
  • Personal Growth
  • Fun and Leisure time
  • Spiritual life and religious activities

It is not so simple to just measure our life in numbers and scales. We can be functioning at vastly different levels in different areas. Our level can also change rapidly. In an instant, an area that we thought we had mastered with a +10, can suddenly plummet to a -10 by the loss of a job or the death of a spouse. Someone we thought was a friend turns out to be an enemy. A doctor calls with a bad test result. The ways that our life can be thrown off tracks are innumerable. Even without a serious or traumatic event disrupting our trajectory in life, it can be very difficult to achieve all we want in life on our own.

The famous psychologist Erich Fromm once wrote, “Man [and woman] always die before he is fully born.” At first glance, this may seem negative. However, it is actually a positive thought. It means that we are always striving for more. We can never achieve everything we really want. There is always growth to be had, more to be experienced, things to learn. Even if you feel like you are functioning at all 9’s or 10’s on our previous scale, there is more to experience in life. You must simply challenge yourself.

When you begin to see that change, and start to truly believe that your life can be different, progress will happen faster and faster as you become more intentional about your goals. This is not an easy process, but it would be our honor to walk with you on this journey.

Set aside all the reasons why you should not call a Thriveworks Knoxville life coach. These are simply more distractions on the journey to achievement.

I have been taking my 7 year old grandson to see Justin. He had horrible anxiety. It saddened us to see how bad it was. He had developed tics. Justin was absolutely wonderful with him. He has overcome most of his fears and tics have went away. I would highly recommend Justin.

Going to Thriveworks for the past year and a half has been the most rewarding counseling experience I’ve had. Seeing Lindsey has had the single biggest impact on my emotional and mental health, especially in healing from past childhood abuse and trauma, and ongoing PTSD. Out of multiple counselors in two states, Lindsey Chandler is by far the one with whom I’ve felt the most accepted, supported, and encouraged by. I am grateful for the Thriveworks space, as it is not at all clinical nor intimidating, but entirely warn and welcoming. It is nearly a scent-free environment, which is vital for the comfort of any highly sensitive persons. I choose to drive an hour from home each visit specifically to stay loyal to a place where I finally feel safe and valued—where in the past commuting five minutes from home to work with a therapist felt like a chore and an ordeal—and I will continue to do so as I work further toward a healthier me.

My son saw “Mrs. Amanda” as he affectionately called her shortly after my marriage ended in a high conflict divorce. My son was 6 years old at the time, so it was difficult for him to process his feelings without knowing how to communicate with us. Amanda Gilliam was always there to listen and provide outlets for him to speak openly about his feelings in a way that could be understood. She is top knotch in my book and I would highly recommend her as a professional!

I was in sessions with Justin for about a year and highly recommend him. He has a deep grasp of psychology that he is constantly refreshing and renewing, and he was able to help me a lot in understanding what was driving the emotions and feelings of myself and close family members. He was a great help.
