About Roussel
Roussel Javier is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has over a decade of experience in human services, working closely with the elderly population for over 9 years, and over 5 years in mental healthcare serving children, young adults, adults, couples, and families. She is passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families who are dealing with different challenges that life brings, with the goal of building their resilience and resources in the process.
Roussel completed her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. She is an eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapist and certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) who is highly dedicated and passionate about attachment and trauma-informed care. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and and eclectic approaches. She is also a PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy) provider for families/parents who need support in dealing with their children’s behavioral issues.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
As I discovered the significance of my own story, I realized that my story was meant for others to benefit from as well. I believe that I am purposed to use my story/experiences, education/training, and expertise to help others.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I look forward to working with clients who are ready and willing to make changes in their lives, and who are determined to find their own strength and build their resilience.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish they knew that they were created for a wonderful purpose if they did not know already.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because I heard that they have a healthy and supportive environment.
What inspires you?
The gift of redemption and restoration through Christ inspires me to help others to find their own redemptive and restorative life story.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My clients can expect a safe space during their first session and all the coming sessions with me.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would like to build a good therapeutic relationship or establish a rapport with my client while setting up the client's goals in therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I would like my future clients to know that I am very well committed to working with them. I am willing to meet them where they are at, providing them with an empathic and non-judgmental safe space where they can begin their journey toward their healing and achieving their goals.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time with my family on my time off - watching a movie, dining out, hiking, going to the beach, traveling, etc.
