Hear from our clinicians

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement couples/marriage counseling?

Kirsten Ramey
Kirsten Ramey

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

I always suggest date nights to help couples rekindle their love.

What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

Kirsten Ramey
Kirsten Ramey

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Online counseling is still new for many clients, but I have been using it even before the pandemic. My go to approach is for psychoeducation, because I want to stress the importance of understanding the benefits of online therapy!

What tools do you teach in family therapy?

Elizabeth Mooney
Elizabeth Mooney

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

I teach the following tools in family therapy:
  • Communication tools (I statements, soft start ups, assertive statements, assertive listening skills)
  • Relationship cycles (Woodsfellow love/fear cycles)

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

Elizabeth Mooney
Elizabeth Mooney

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

To prepare for your first therapy session, you can complete any intake materials your therapist may send to assess the current impact anxiety may be having on your daily life. I would also encourage clients to be mindful that anxiety is a human emotion so managing expectations for therapy can be helpful. For example, a therapist/therapy will not be able to “stop anxiety” from occurring. I believe managing expectations can be a helpful first step before beginning treatment.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in depression counseling?

Elizabeth Mooney
Elizabeth Mooney

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

When a client begins to note positive occurrences and presents with more positive self-talk about themselves and their management of stressors, therapy may be deemed successful. Clients will likely note more consistent pursuance of enjoyable activities and involvement within their community or support circles. Clients may also report feeling more energetic and motivated when therapy has been successful in treating depression.

What Is the Difference Between Therapy, Counseling, and Psychiatry?

Therapy, provided by our counselors and therapists, addresses emotional and behavioral challenges using therapeutic techniques for mental well-being. Counseling, offered by counselors or therapists, focuses on specific issues and life adjustments, while psychiatry, led by our psychiatric nurse practitioners, involves diagnosing and treating mental health conditions with medication.

What Are the Types of Therapists You Can See?

While availability may vary, at Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Kennesaw, we offer:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs): Specialized in social work and counseling for individuals, families, and groups.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs): Focused on relationship and family-related issues.
  • Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs): Trained to offer counseling services for various emotional and mental health issues.

When you connect with a provider at Thriveworks, you’ll be sharing your experience with an industry-leading expert; someone with the experience and professional insight you need to move forward.

To find the right therapist or therapeutic approach at Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Kennesaw, browse our provider profiles, or contact your local office at (770) 343-4919 to discuss your needs and preferences with our helpful support team.

How Much Does Therapy Cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

How Do I Get Started?

If you are ready to make changes for a better future, call Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Kennesaw. When you call, you will speak with a scheduling specialist—a real person will take your information and pair you with a qualified counselor or life coach, depending on your needs. We want to earn your trust from day one, showing that we are on your side and ready to help.

So, we offer evening and weekend appointments, and we accept major insurance providers, to offer you the best possible options.
