About Kiara

I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with experience in both outpatient psychiatry and crisis stabilization settings. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, trauma-related concerns, stress, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. Many of the clients I work with are used to pushing through their struggles quietly while trying to keep up with work, school, relationships, or family responsibilities, and are looking for practical support, clarity, and lasting emotional stability.

My approach is collaborative, practical, and judgment-free. I combine medication management with supportive conversations, psychoeducation, and realistic goal-setting to help clients understand their symptoms, improve daily functioning, and feel emotionally balanced. Clients can expect honesty, empathy, and treatment plans tailored to their individual needs.

You do not have to have everything figured out before reaching out for support. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck, or simply trying to feel more like yourself again, I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable being honest, understood, and supported throughout the process.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I’ve always had a passion for mental health. Before pursuing nursing, my first major was psychology, but while working as a CNA, I realized how much I valued the direct patient care and human connection that comes with clinical work. That experience ultimately led me into nursing and later psychiatry. My perspective on mental health also became deeply personal through my experiences as a parent. My son struggled with emotional, behavioral, and attention-related challenges, and navigating that journey often left me feeling unheard and unsupported as a mother. I saw firsthand how frustrating it can be when people feel dismissed, misunderstood, or reduced to a diagnosis without truly being listened to. Those experiences strengthened my desire to become a provider who takes the time to understand the full person, creates a supportive and judgmentfree environment, and works collaboratively with clients to help them feel better and function more confidently in their daily lives.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adolescents and adults who are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, stuck, or frustrated with trying to “push through” their struggles on their own. Many of the clients I connect well with are high-functioning on the outside but privately dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, mood instability, trauma-related concerns, or difficulty managing life’s demands and relationships.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish more clients knew that healing is not always linear, and struggling does not mean you are failing. Sometimes progress looks like setting boundaries, understanding your patterns, learning how to cope differently, or simply being honest about how much you’ve been carrying instead of trying to “hold it together” all the time.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the first session, clients can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental conversation focused on understanding what has been going on emotionally, mentally, and personally. I take time to ask questions, gather background information, and understand each client’s concerns, goals, and day-today challenges rather than rushing straight to a diagnosis or medication plan. In the early stages of treatment, we work collaboratively to build a plan that feels realistic, supportive, and tailored to the client’s individual needs.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is heavily influenced by both my professional and personal experiences. Working in mental health has shown me how often people suffer quietly while trying to keep up with daily responsibilities, and my experiences as a parent navigating behavioral and emotional challenges taught me the importance of truly listening without making people feel dismissed or reduced to a label. I value empathy, honesty, collaboration, and creating a space where clients feel respected, understood, and comfortable being themselves.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I understand that no two people experience mental health challenges the same way, so I tailor treatment plans based on each client’s symptoms, stressors, goals, personality, and comfort level. While medication management may be part of treatment, I also focus on education, supportive conversations, and helping clients build realistic strategies that fit their daily lives and individual needs.
