Get to know Gloria

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I chose this field because I wanted to help people navigate difficult periods in their lives and support them in building healthier, more fulfilling lives. Mental health affects every aspect of a person's well-being, and I value the opportunity to listen without judgment, understand each person's unique experiences, and work collaboratively to find effective strategies or treatments. It's rewarding to see people gain confidence, develop coping skills, and make progress toward their goals.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adults and older adults because they generally have the capacity to provide informed consent, which supports collaborative, autonomous decision-making in the therapeutic process.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I want my clients to know that the healing process in not a quick fix. Healing is rarely a straight line. There are periods of progress, plateaus, and occasional setbacks. The goal isn't to become someone who never struggles. It's to become someone who can navigate life's struggles with greater flexibility, self-awareness, and resilience.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges they 're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan to work through in follow-up sessions.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My personal experiences and values has led me to be respectful, nonjudgmental, and collaborative rather than directive or prescriptive and to support people's autonomy, helping them think through options, and encouraging professional care when a situation calls for it.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by starting with a thorough assessment. Thus Understanding why the client is seeking therapy, their symptoms, personal history, relationships, culture, values, and what they hope to achieve.
