About Michelle
Hi! My name is Michelle Flood and I am a multicredentialed, multi-degreed, and multi-disciplined mental health professional with 25 years in the healthcare field. I have a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies from Miami University, a Master of Science in Art Therapy from Florida State University, and a Master of Business and Administration from Savannah State University. Although I have worked with clients of all ages, my specialty ages that I serve are the children/adolescent and geriatric populations. These populations often struggle expressing their feelings and it is my pleasure to assist!
As a therapist who has also been a client, I know the thought of trying therapy can be anxiety-provoking and stress-inducing, especially for my aforementioned specialty populations. Because of that, I specialize in making my clients feel comfortable with the therapy process so it feels like a safe space to express themselves without judgment.
Life can be so tough sometimes, making it difficult for us to engage in self-care. However, it can be so much easier to manage with a therapist's help. Being a therapy client myself has helped me so much throughout my life and I enjoy paying it forward. I would love the opportunity to work with you and assist with your self-care journey!

"As a Black and Latina woman who grew up with a military parent and an immigrant parent, I understand the unique challenges of identity exploration and adapting to multiple cultures."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I first went to therapy when I was in elementary school and continued going to therapy on and off throughout my life and it was life-changing for me. I want to help others like how I was helped.
What types of clients do you work best with?
That human connection is hard to explain, you just know you click with someone from the beginning for any type of relationship and that's how it is with therapy clients as well. I work best with clients where we just organically connect from the beginning.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish clients knew that therapy oftentimes is not a quick fix. I like to use the analogy of working on your physical health by going to a gym. You are not going to see instant results after going to the gym a couple of times, likewise with seeing instant results for your mental health after a couple of therapy sessions.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In their first sessions with me, clients can expect a sense of relief that they are being seen and heard.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
Being a military child, living in and visiting different places throughout my life even after the military has strengthened my empathy muscle and made it easier to be openminded with many people.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I like to have a conversation about what the client needs and what I can do for them and basically create a treatment plan together.
