What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My approach to online therapy is to encourage others to feel as “at home,” as they are in their personal setting. I find online therapy to be beneficial because it's easily accessible; no transportation costs or needs are involved and it's less interruption in daily schedules.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the same tools in online therapy as with in-person therapy, such as dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, client-centered therapy, and motivational interviewing.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I feel a client is making progress in online therapy when they are able to feel comfortable on camera to engage in discussion and express using coping skills covered in sessions.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement time talking in online therapy by using suggested coping skills, such as grounding techniques, deep breathing, and self-care at home, outside, or at the gym.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

The best preparation for online therapy is to realize it will be the same type of interaction as in person; most therapists using virtual therapy are used to it and comfortable on their end. Making a list of things to discuss is also helpful in any therapy session. Even people new to virtual therapy seem to quickly become more at ease than they imagined.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Online Counseling: Help Through All of Life’s Challenges

In fact, online counseling can provide you with guidance through all of these different areas:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Marital issues

  • And more!

Every client will receive a unique treatment plan because we understand that no two situations are the same. We are dedicated to providing you with the most well-rounded care possible.

Benefits of Online Counseling

As we have briefly touched on, online counseling provides many added benefits that traditional in-person therapy can’t. Take these, for instance:

  1. Online counseling is a comfortable option. Being able to talk from the place that makes you feel the most comfortable and safe often allows clients to open up even more than they would in a traditional setting.
  2. Convenience also plays a big role in online counseling. You can talk to your mental health care provider from your car if you need to, from your desk at work, at home (of course), and even while you’re away on vacation. All you need is a quiet, private place to talk.
  3. One of the greatest benefits to this option is that it’s just as effective as in-person counseling. You won’t have to worry about making less progress if you choose this option.

Zack Diamond Drake has some of the best ears around. If there is something dragging you down or simply holding you back, this individual will not only help you work through whatever it is, but help you to think through the process yourself. This, in my opinion, is the best kind of counseling there is. I would highly recommend his services.
