Starting Life coaching

What is Life coaching?

Life coaching is a personalized support system that helps individuals clarify goals, develop action plans, and navigate challenges. Coaches employ effective communication and active listening to assist clients in overcoming obstacles, unlocking their potential, and achieving personal growth for a more fulfilling life.

How does Life coaching work?

In life coaching, our coaches utilize diverse therapeutic techniques that are tailored to individuals, including cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, mindfulness, and positive psychology approaches. They also utilize active listening and empathetic communication to provide a supportive space for you to explore and achieve personal goals and overcome challenges, fostering personal growth and clarity.

Is Life coaching conducted in person or online?

Life coaching with our therapists in Mt Pleasant, SC is conducted both in person and virtually via online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does Life coaching last?

The number of life coaching sessions someone attends can differ based on the coach and the client's choices. How many sessions are needed and how often they occur often hinges on the client's objectives and the complexity of their concerns. Some clients might opt for a few sessions to tackle particular goals or issues, while others may decide on ongoing coaching sessions to work on personal growth and life enhancement over a more extended period of time. Thriveworks Mt Pleasant therapists work with clients to create goals and potential timelines for treatment.

Counseling versus Coaching – What’s right for you?

Counselors are board-certified mental health providers who serve clients for a multitude of reasons. They work together to define problems and guide clients or groups of clients on coping skills and self-esteem for optimal mental health and wellness. Depending on your symptoms, we have many different types of therapy to support your needs at Thriveworks Mt. Pleasant.

Coaches receive extensive training and certification to partner with you to set and achieve individual goals whether in life, academics, career, relationships, or as an executive. Most people don’t participate in sports without the support of a coach, right? Just as a sports coach helps you to identify your areas of growth, sets goals, and champions you along the way, so does a Life Coach. You will work together to determine the obstacles and limitations that hinder your success and then create a plan with goals that feel attainable. Your coach can assist you in setting short and long term goals while providing unbiased support and encouragement along the way.

At Thriveworks Mt. Pleasant, we want you to excel beyond your aspirations and the support of a certified coach can help you reach your maximum potential.

Some misconceptions about coaching:

  • Coaching doesn’t require certification or training. False! Unfortunately, there are people who claim to be life coaches but lack the expertise and training to adequately support clients. Thriveworks Mount Pleasant does not employ these coaches. Instead, our coach has the training, certification, and experience to provide the tools and guidance you need to succeed.
  • Coaching isn’t needed for successful people. Successful individuals often benefit the most from coaching as they navigate leadership skill development, growth opportunities, or how to balance their current responsibilities. Sometimes it can be hard to see what’s needed even if you are successful. A career or executive coach can provide an unbiased perspective and challenge you to achieve your professional goals.
  • Coaching will take too much time. Coaching can be accomplished virtually or in-person around your schedule. It does not require much of a time commitment with your coach, as the real work happens on your own time while working towards your set goals. Regular sessions, typically 1-3 times per month, are helpful to celebrate achievements and set new goals.

How can a coach at Thriveworks help me?

Our well trained and certified life coach specializes in life, academic, career, and executive coaching. All of these areas are intertwined and dependent on each other. To become successful in each one requires a willingness to self-reflect, set goals, accept challenges, and follow-through. The consistency and accountability of our life coach make your goals possible.

Go ahead. Astonish yourself and achieve the goals you might not have even known you had.

My therapist at Thriveworks, Susan, is warm and and relatable. I am a late-diagnosed autistic woman. I am basically now learning what everyone else learned in kindergarten. I have a history of broken marriages and jobs I was invited to leave because I didn't fit in, to put it mildly. She has helped me in so many ways, and I can now see decisions I made that I thought were just what had happened to me. I feel much more capable and hopeful now. I wish I could have met her years ago. I have gone to many therapists over the years, but now I can see how I can feel hopeful about my life and my relationships with my daughters and my grandchildren.

Susan is my Thriveworks therapist. She is helping me set boundaries and make better choices. I am learning a lot from her. Having Asperger's, I often can be quite blunt. I am gradually learning how to say less but make better connections. She
