About
As a member of the lgbtqia+ community, with long term health conditions, I understand how important it is to have someone to talk to and work through life's challenges.
I am a licensed professional counselor with 9 years of experience supporting clients through anxiety, depression, addiction, lgbtqia+ concerns, life transitions, and self-esteem challenges. I take an open-minded and eclectic approach to treatment, drawing from cbt, motivational interviewing, and person-centered strategies to help clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to explore their experiences without judgment.
I hold a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of South Carolina. My background includes adlerian theory and a range of evidence-based interventions that help clients examine where unhelpful thoughts originate and how to replace them with healthier beliefs and choices.
I am here to support you with compassion and collaboration. Wherever you are starting from, whatever you have experienced, and whatever goals you’re working toward, we can walk through it together. I would be honored to be part of your growth and help you move toward a more grounded, hopeful version of yourself.

As a counselor who has had his fair share of personal counseling, I understand what immense courage and vulnerability it is like to be a client opening up to a complete stranger.

Jennifer Brown is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who, after more than 23 years in the profession of counseling, still looks forward to teaching a person how to fish. Her approach to counseling is this; Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch a fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. Jennifer will equip you with the skills you need through a cooperative and collaborative relationship that focuses on your strengths that already exist. Her approach is that of a wellness model as she believes most people hold their own answers and solutions to their challenges but simply need a safe place in which to share experiences, improve insight and self-awareness and explore solutions. Jennifer’s favorite part of her job has always been helping people cope with their pain and guiding them through the process as they work through issues. Even better, she gets to witness their transformation as they them come out on the other side so much stronger mentally and confident in their ability to cope. She has often said to clients “I wish you could witness your change from beginning to end in the same way that I can see it.” Jennifer views it as a privilege when people allow her to be a part of their life in the valleys as well as on the mountaintop. She believes there is such gratification in knowing that people come into her office truly feeling that it is a safe environment where they can “come apart” if they need to and they will not be judged, interrupted, or invalidated. Jennifer understands that many times it is that people need that “safe zone” where it is all about them and just “being” with them is hugely therapeutic. She recognizes that everyone has a story. She doesn’t believe in putting clients where SHE thinks they need to be but, rather, in meeting them where they are. She serves as a guide to help you discover your own solutions. Jennifer is comfortable with silence and recognizes sometimes profound therapy can occur when nothing at all is being said. Jennifer believes that she has been honored to see people make huge strides towards being mentally healthy. Jennifer provides individual and couples counseling, serving persons ages 18 and older. Her applications of therapeutic techniques include cognitive, affective, behavioral and systemic approaches. Her areas of specialty include depression, (including post-partum depression), anxiety, stress, unanticipated life events, grief counseling, interpersonal discord, career issues, life transitions and personal/social adjustment. Certified in The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy Certified Mental Health Professional in Collaborative Law – The South Carolina Collaborative Law Institute (SCCLI) Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Yes, there are therapists who help with anger via Anger management therapy. It’s a therapeutic process that an individual goes through to manage their anger and identify its triggers. They’re given clear instructions on how to improve their angry behavior as well as a safe space for opening up about their emotions.
Once an individual’s triggers are identified, anger management therapy focuses on helping the individual process and respond to these emotions in a more positive and productive manner. The anger management therapist will provide coping strategies and ultimately help their client take back control of their anger.
The five keys to mastering anger include identifying triggers, pausing before reacting, calmly expressing emotions, discovering constructive outlets for frustration, and seeking professional assistance if necessary. Acquiring these skills through Anger management therapy empowers individuals to effectively manage and navigate their anger.
The best therapy for anger management often involves cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps individuals identify and change patterns of thinking and behavior related to anger.
Anger management therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Often, Anger management therapy lasts between 4-6 weeks. However, it can last longer, dependent on the individual’s needs.
Feeling angry is a natural part of our lives and is an emotion that everyone experiences. But, if the underlying causes of your anger feel overwhelming or if you feel anger a higher proportion to other emotions or if you react to anger with an intense rage that causes concern among your family and friends—or even yourself—you may benefit from anger counseling. Reach out today to Thriveworks Mt. Pleasant to get started.
Anger counseling isn’t designed to teach you to avoid anger altogether. Instead, anger counseling is often referred to as anger management to more accurately describe the outcome of anger counseling. Anger counseling helps individuals learn coping mechanisms and techniques to help manage the regularity and intense reactions to feeling anger.
Thriveworks Mt. Pleasant will help you learn how to better understand and react to feeling angry. Our licensed therapists will start by assessing your anger to understand your unique concerns, experiences, and what your typical reaction is to anger. We will then work together to create a unique path forward to help manage your anger in a more productive and peaceful way.
If you feel like your reaction to anger is out of control or that you’re feeling angry more often than not, the team at Thriveworks Mt. Pleasant can help you overcome these feelings to live a more fulfilled and relaxed life.
Our counselors have flexible schedules so you can be seen when it fits your schedule, including evenings and weekends. We accept most major insurance plans and have affordable self-pay options. Call us today at 843-606-6223 to schedule your first counseling session.
