Spiritual Counseling and Anger – Counselors and Therapists in Franklin, MA

From a spiritual perspective, those who believe in God see him as the creator of all things. If this is true, then he created all emotions including anger. If emotions were created to serve us, then anger must have a necessary function as well.

If this is true, then can all expressions of anger be wrong? Is there such a thing as righteous anger? If there is such a thing as righteous anger can it actually bring us closer to God? It may depend on who is defining righteous anger.

What tends to trigger our anger? Often it is brought on either by frustration because our expectations are not being met or when there are obstacles that are in the way of obtaining a desired goal. These may include when:

  • We can’t figure out a math problem,
  • A bad play cost our team a big game,
  • Our supervisor gives us a verbal warning,
  • Our child is disobedient.

Anger can also be provoked by extreme injustices. This occurs when we see others suffer from things such as:

  • Poverty
  • Racism
  • Crime
  • Abuse or
  • When someone we love is in harm’s way

Do any of these things make God angry?

Below is a link to a class on “Anger” taught by Dr. Handel. He uses scripture and actual case studies to study anger from a spiritual perspective. The causes of anger are explored as well as helpful ways to understand anger that may help us control our responses to it.

Dr. Handel is a licensed psychologist and ordained minister. He is also the Clinical Director and owner of Thriveworks Franklin. At Thriveworks Franklin, there are therapists who have experience in anger management. They can help you identify the triggers of anger and develop both spiritual and behavioral ways of managing anger. g process and wait list during these times of Covid. I chose Jane Eagles to work with because I wanted a mature therapist with lots of experience. She was able to tune right into my situation and my goals for the sessions. She raised great questions for me to consider and always took time to reiterate the main takeaways of our time together. I appreciated her wisdom and clarity as well as her sense of humor.

Opened a New World of Healing

I started coming to therapy. I was skeptical at first, knowing that "the first therapist you see may not be the right 'fit' for you," but I was lucky enough to have immediately clicked with Mikkah. It took a bit of time for me to really open up and start to dig deep in my own emotion, but Mikkah was so patient and made me feel so comfortable. She truly has helped me identify a lot of different things I was feeling, but couldn't understand why. I originally came to therapy for adult ADD, recommended by my PCP, but I used therapy as a healthy outlet to start talking about things I have experienced that has caused my mental clarity to fog. Mikkah has truly been such a savior in my life and I can't express my gratitude I have for her. She is extremely professional but makes me feel so comfortable talking about literally anything - almost like we've been best friends for years, even though I just met her a few short months ago. I am so happy with how my therapy is going and I always leave a session feeling better than how I went in. Thank you Thriveworks and thank you especially to Mikkah! You are incredible!!
