Starting Obsessive-compulsive disorder therapy (OCDT) in Chapel Hill

What is OCD counseling?

OCD counseling is a specialized therapeutic approach aimed at supporting individuals coping with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The goal of this counseling is to help clients manage and alleviate the distressing symptoms of OCD by systematically addressing their obsessive thought patterns and compulsive behaviors.

How does OCD counseling work?

In OCD counseling, Thriveworks Chapel Hill therapists use cognitive behavioral techniques, including exposure and response prevention, to assist you in addressing and managing your obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. An OCD therapist will collaborate with you to identify and modify irrational thought patterns while gradually and gently exposing you to anxiety-triggering situations, helping to disrupt the cycle of obsessive-compulsive rituals and promote healthier coping strategies.

Is OCD counseling conducted in person or online?

Thriveworks OCD counseling in Chapel Hill, NC is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does OCD counseling last?

The number of sessions for OCD counseling is variable, contingent upon the individual’s unique needs, the severity of their condition, and their progress during treatment. Typically, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), commonly used for OCD, comprises around 12 to 16 weekly sessions, but the exact session count can be customized based on the individual’s response to treatment and therapeutic objectives. Some opt for a more extended duration to comprehensively manage symptoms and address complex issues.

I saw Bonnie Kell and she is very easy to talk with. She makes you feel relaxed during the session & has interesting suggestions to try from session to session. One thing though when I sign on if I sign in more than 5 minutes early it will sign me back out & I have to sign in again, that needs some improvement. I try to show up early or on time, I do not like to rush to get onto the appointment time.

Alex is extremely professional and approachable, understanding, and non-judgemental. I feel like she hears me and actually understands what I'm trying to say. Alex is easy to contact outside of sessions, and I feel like my symptoms have been improving since we started working together.

I found Thriveworks a year or so ago in hopes to find therapy that I could attend virtually. It was a great experience getting to look through different provider profiles and find someone that would be the best fit. I find a ton value in my sessions and feel very supported by my provider.
