Bonnie Kell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with over nine years of experience in the mental health field. Bonnie completed her MSW at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously to this, she received her MA in Gerontology at the University of North Texas. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient facilities. Bonnie utilizes multiple treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and motivational interviewing.

Get to know Bonnie
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I had some issues with depression and anxiety and I was impressed with the help I received from a therapist. I was ready for a career change, and I decided that I wanted to help people on a one-to-one basis.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have a lot of experience working with people who have a duel diagnosis of some mental health disorder and a substance use disorder. I work best with client who suffer from depression or anxiety or trauma.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with anyone who is interested in doing the work to help themselves feel better and function more effectively in their day-to-day life.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That therapy is a collaborative process. I can't help anyone without a good working relationship that is informed by curiosity and a willingness to be honest.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I had heard good things about Thriveworks and I was very impressed with the organization during the interview process.
What inspires you?
People's innate ability to change and grow.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
We will spend some time getting to know each other and identify what brought them to therapy.. I like to identify what a client wants to work on and what's important to them.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Identifying problems, they want to work on, gathering information on their lives so I have a better understanding of what their issues are.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I feel that I am an empathetic, good listener with good clinical skills.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am an avid reader. I love movies and I enjoy meeting friends for a walk or a cup of coffee.
