At Thriveworks, when we opened our first clinical location, we quickly realized that we needed an answering service, or a message taking service, for times when our clinical teams were in session or otherwise unavailable (even clinicians need a day off once in a while). The problem was that while the message-taking style answering services (we used several of them over a few years) usually did their job well, the services were very limited.
We Were Playing Phone Tag
That is to say, the service would take the name and phone number of the caller, and sometime also a brief message, but we would then need to call the person back. When we would try to do this we would often reach the person’s voicemail. And so the process would continue–he/she would call us and we would be with patients. We would call the person back and we’d leave another voicemail.
And we Lost Lots of New Patients
If the caller was a current patient/client, he or she would get frustrated at how hard it was to pin someone down who could confirm an appointment. And even worse, new clients and patients–by the time we connected with them–either were no longer confident they wanted to do business with us, or they had found another healthcare provider. This was no good!
And So Thriveworks Reception and Scheduling Was Born
Eventually, we figured out that if our practice was going to succeed, we were going to need consistent telephone answering from trained staff who knew our practice inside and out. We needed multiple receptionists standing by so that we wouldn’t miss calls, and we needed staff who would represent our company extremely well. Also, we needed staff who could screen and schedule new (and ongoing) patients. This was expensive to build, but it was worth it! Today, we have a small chain of medical practices in four states along the east coast, and our patients and potential patients always can get a hold of a team member.
And Then, We Offered Thriveworks Reception and Scheduling to the World!
It didn’t take long for us to realize that other medical practices across the US could benefit from the same level of high-quality reception and scheduling that we were using in our practices. So, we began Thriveworks Reception and Scheduling (adding it to our menu of other services, such as our Medical Billing and Medical Credentialing services, we were already offering). To date, we have helped thousands of practices across the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska) build and grow.
