What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is to identify irrational thoughts that cause negative feelings. Also, we will work on identifying negative behaviors that perpetuate the thoughts and feelings.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the following tools in online therapy: mindfulness, thought challenging, cognitive reframing, self-care, distress tolerance skills, communication skills, and boundary setting.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know that a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when they are able to identify how their thoughts impact their mood and subsequently their behavior.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy with daily journaling and practicing mindfulness at home.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session, you can make sure you are in a private place, alone, with stable internet access and the Zoom app downloaded.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it's best to focus on finding a provider that meets your speicifc needs and with wom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Allentown, PA accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

What Is Telehealth?

Telehealth refers to a variety of technologies to deliver virtual medical, physical health, and mental health services. Telehealth counseling allows for long-distance patient and client interaction and care via videoconferencing.  Therapists can provide individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, psychoeducation, consultations, diagnosis and assessment, feedback, coaching, and more through telehealth videoconferencing. Telehealth helps to improve access to therapists, brings care to the client’s location, decreases delays in care, improves continuity of care, decreases need for time off of work, reduces transportation barriers, and reduces the barrier of stigma so you can thrive.

How Can Telehealth help?

Telehealth happens in real time over videoconferencing.  It allows the client and therapist to work together on the client’s treatment goals from afar.  Research shows that telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy sessions and provides the added convenience of not having to travel to the office and allows the client to more easily fit a session into their daily life to ensure that they can work on their treatment goals. Telehealth is especially helpful for those who live in remote areas who do not have easy access to therapists and coaches. Telehealth is appropriate for depression, anxiety, mood disorder, couples therapy, family therapy, stress related conditions, and beyond.

What Do You Need to Participate in Telehealth?

In order to participate in telehealth services, you would need the following items:

  • Computer, tablet, or smart phone
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Headset and microphone (optional to keep your session from being heard by others)
  • A link to the telehealth platform your therapist or coach provides to you
  • Time set aside for your appointment
  • The desire to reach your treatment goals

How Can Thriveworks Allentown Help?

At Thriveworks Allentown, each of our therapists has the ability to provide telehealth sessions utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities and intervention techniques.  Many insurance companies cover telehealth services.  Our therapists and coaches will work with you to schedule your appointment at a time that works best for you.  We will sit together with you via videoconferencing to listen to you, address your concerns, and help you work toward you treatment goals.  The techniques and skills we discuss will not be any different from the techniques and skills we would discuss in our in person sessions.  We can provide telehealth services to adults, adolescents, and children when appropriate.  We here at Thriveworks utilize HIPAA compliant videoconferencing platforms to ensure your confidentiality and safety. Call now to schedule your appointment.

I looked around for a therapist for a month or so I found this place and I read and reread the reviews and Lauren’s bio a few times When I finally called a few months ago the woman who took my information and answered my questions, I specifically asked if I needed a new letter for my emotional support dog would they be able to help. She assured me absolutely yes. We do it all the time Now a few months into my sessions I asked Lauren for a letter to give my landlord. Lauren informed me over 3 weeks ago she would ask her boss. 2 weeks later she told me no, her boss said no. I had to go online. A year ago my landlord did not like the online one and wanted it from a local Therapist This past week when I had my appointment with Lauren, she said she couldn’t, i asked what kind of therapist she was. Because I was told when I decided to come to your practice that I could get one, I was told I had to have a few sessions with the therapist Now on Tuesday 2/13 I asked, she told me she was meeting with her boss the next day and would tell him what I was told She said she would email me the next day, now it’s Saturday and nothing. I now am so upset that I put all this time into a therapist that isn’t qualified to write a letter, not because of her, but from some rule that I was lied to about on the onset Now I really think I need to go find a true therapist The fact I’m told to go online to get one from a stranger, while I am in therapy Makes me question your practice In sales we call it bait and switch
