What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy. I find the best benefit in using a multi-media approach (charts/graphs/videos) because it helps explain complicated issues in an interesting way.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

Some of the tools I teach in online therapy include:

  • Mindfulness: learning to stay in the now rather than the self-recrimination of the past and/or the anxiety about the future. Additionally, mindfulness techniques get us out of our fight-freeze-flee cycle.
  • Cognitive distortions: what they are, some of the reasons they're a problem, and how to combat them.
  • Strategies to improve executive functioning skills, including improving focus, procrastination, time management and organization, and initiation of tasks.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when they say things like, “I know I'm catastrophizing,” “I got the project turned in on time,” or “My sleep is better because I'm not ruminating as much.”

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy? Practice the skills we talk about, even if they seem too simple. An example of this is mindful breathing. It sounds too simple, but studies are showing that just two minutes (on average) of mindful breathing can significantly reduce the reactivity of our fight-flee-freeze centers.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session, you can familiarize yourself with Zoom and download the latest version so we have minimal technical glitches and more time to work together.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Westborough, MA accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

Thriveworks Westborough has embarked on an important mission, that is helping people in the Worcester community live better. One small crack does not mean that you are broken, it

means that you were put to the test and you didn’t fall apart.”

–Linda Poindexter

We understand that scheduling an appointment with a therapist isn’t always easy, due to the judgment you fear or the lack of accessibility. Fortunately, there is a solution to both of these problems at Thriveworks Westborough, MA. If you’re looking for Worcester therapy, consider working with a Thriveworks Westborough online therapist. Online therapy means that you can attend your therapy sessions online; this provides greater convenience, flexibility, and it allows you to remain anonymous, if you so choose. Worcester Therapy: What Is Online Therapy Counseling?

Online counseling is the convenient alternative to in-person counseling. While some people don’t have a problem making it to their weekly sessions, others do. Online therapy—otherwise called internet counseling, cyber counseling, and teletherapy—is the answer to this problem. If you choose to work with your therapist online, you’ll have several options to choose from including:

  • Phone counseling
  • Videoconference counseling
  • Email/text message therapy

All of these options have proven effective. Now, you might choose phone counseling or videoconference counseling if you value that therapeutic connection and want to meet with your therapist for a set amount of time. However, if you’re looking for a more casual, flexible experience in therapy, the latter might be the right online counseling option for you.

What Are Online Therapy Benefits?

Online therapy counseling is beneficial to many different people who are in search of mental health services. This option can prove especially valuable to those who have a jam-packed schedule or those who are simply looking for therapy they can attend with greater ease. Let’s explore these online therapy benefits farther:

  1. Convenience and flexibility: Online therapy makes working with a therapist or counselor convenient. You don’t have to worry about shuffling your schedule to fit in a day-time appointment. Instead, you can add a therapy appointment to your schedule with ease, as you can attend from wherever you need and you have more scheduling options available to you.
  2. Effectiveness: Don’t worry. You are not in any way sacrificing the success you would find in in-person counseling. Evidence shows that online counseling is effective. In fact, it could prove more effective than in-person counseling, especially if you don’t feel comfortable opening up your therapist in person.
  3. Reliability: Last but not least, online therapy offers reliability. While sickness, bad weather, and physical disabilities might put you at risk of missing your in-person therapy appointment, these external factors will not hinder your ability to make it to your online therapy appointment.

Thriveworks Westborough, MA is happy to help people work through their mental health issues and find greater happiness, health, or success in life. If you are in search of a convenient, flexible, effective, and reliable therapy option, reach out to Thriveworks Westborough today. You can thrive, and our online therapists can help.
