Therapy for women uses traditional psychotherapeutic techniques implemented through a feminist lens to help women deal with the emotional and mental ramifications of being a woman in today’s society. Thriveworks Roanoke therapists will target issues like toxic masculinity, gender roles, misogyny, and other problems that women face daily and their impact on their mental health.
Therapy for women works much like traditional therapy, but will also integrate person-centered and humanistic therapy approaches at the forefront of treatment. Thriveworks Roanoke therapists who specialize in treating women acknowledge the unique experience of each individual while treating a wide variety of concerns with empathy, compassion, and respect.
Therapy for women at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Therapy for women will often last until the client feels that their therapeutic goals have been met, whether it continues for a few months or over the course of years. However, treatment should last at least five months, as that is the average amount of time therapy takes to have a lasting impact.
Most women’s issues are very personal, and can also be very painful and frightening. Frequently, they bring with them a deep sense of shame and the feeling that nobody else understands. You may find yourself struggling with the decision to bring them to light, especially if that means seeking professional help from a licensed Roanoke counselor. Well-meaning family and friends may try to help, but they probably misunderstand and say things like, “You just have to get over it and move on.” During these times, it is absolutely vital to have someone to listen, validate your concerns, and support you – someone who understands what you’re facing. At Thriveworks Roanoke Counseling for Women’s Issues, we have a highly skilled and passionate team of professionals who are here to help you!
