I am Jonathan Serrano, a Licensed Professional Counselor with four years of experience. Born and raised in Houston, I am proud of my Mexican heritage and the values instilled in me through my culture and upbringing. I am passionate about guiding individuals who have taken the important first step of seeking therapy. I specialize in helping clients navigate challenges that may feel overwhelming by creating a safe, supportive, and understanding space. My goal is to walk alongside clients as they rediscover strength, hope, and motivation to move forward.

My go-to approach for helping people in PTSD/trauma therapy is person-centered therapy, where the individual is at the center of decision-making and has control over the services they receive. The techniques I use are empathy, active listening, unconditional positive regard, congruence, addressing negative emotions, and motivational interviewing.

Clients can supplement their time in PTSD/trauma therapy with bibliotherapy, or assigned reading by the therapist, to educate and empower themselves to live their best possible life.
To prepare for their first PTSD/trauma therapy session, the client can journal or jot down what is bothering them, before and in between sessions. Keep this journal handy to discuss in sessions. I recommend journaling when something is bothering you, when you have creative insight, first thing in the morning, and late at night. Anytime is a good time to journal because your story is unique and it matters.
