Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I migrated to the United States in early adolescence, facing and overcoming many challenges during this time all through adulthood. I knew that the challenges I faced were common and often overlooked in the immigrant households due to part of a larger disparity in access to mental health care and stigma we face in our communities. From these adversities, I developed a strong desire to bridge the gap in access to mental health care and help my community, other immigrants, as well as people of color through their mental health challenges.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with adolescents, young adults, adults, women, people of color, and minorities.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are motivated to change, challenge their inner dialogues, and are eager to start the journey of becoming healthier versions of themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Coming to therapy is a big step and it requires so much courage to be vulnerable in this way. I want my clients to know that they have taken one of the most important steps in their healing journey just by being here. The process of therapy can be quite challenging due to coming face to face with realities you may not want to unfold, but it can be as equally rewarding when you work through those uncomfortable emotions and become a fuller version of yourself.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of the amazing network of therapists and clinicians I get to receive guidance and mentorship from. I believe it's important for therapists to keep themselves accountable by continuously learning from one another and keeping the client’s interest at the forefront of our practice.
What inspires you?
Seeing the progress that my clients make and the courage they show is very inspirational. It is the number one thing that keeps me motivated in what I do.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session is all about getting to know you. You can expect to be asked about your educational, cultural, and developmental background, current struggles, and goals for therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and set goals for therapy.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I want to make sure we cover a wide variety of topics and make you feel more comfortable in your choice of coming to therapy, as well as determining if we can be a good fit.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I tailor my treatment and therapy modality to each individual client. Depending on your needs, I may use one form of treatment or a combination of a few. My approach is evidence-based. Finding which approach works best for you would entail collaboratively discussing the progress, and receiving your feedback every step of the way.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy the arts, so on most weeknights, I am either working on the wheel making ceramics pieces or learning a new instrument. I also love nature and animals and you can often find me reading a good book at a park or lake. My two cats Whiskers and Pebbles are my pride and joy and keep me entertained and happy. My idea of self-care is turning off devices and getting lost in an awesome activity or being present with people and nature around me.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I have been told by friends and strangers alike that I have a recognizable smile, and good "energy".
