Starting Treatment With a Psychologist

What are psychologists?

Psychologists are mental health professionals that provide psychotherapy services and diagnoses for their clients. They have more research-focused training than most therapists, as they are more medically educated and receive a more general education about therapeutic approaches and theory.

How do psychologists work?

Thriveworks psychologists in Orlando, FL provide standard psychotherapy services, tailoring treatment to each client and their unique concerns. However, they can also provide diagnoses to clients when appropriate, something that therapists and counselors cannot do. Finally, in some states in the U.S., they are allowed to prescribe medication.

Can I see a psychologist in person or online?

How long would I see a psychologist?

Psychological treatment at Thriveworks Orlando is very individualized and specific to each client, which means that the duration of treatment is often varied depending on a client’s condition or disorder, the state of their symptoms, and their specific goals.

What Do Psychologists Do?

Psychologists are trained professionals in the mental health field who have the training, experience, and skills to help people with a broad range of problems. Depending on the concern at hand, they will use different techniques in their treatment process based on your individual needs, concerns, and goals. The treatment they provide can be divided into three main categories:

  1. Help you cope during stressful situations: Psychologists can help you manage your feelings or reactions to situations that cause you stress. For example: you are preparing for a big move to a new state and you have a lot of things to do before you leave. You are struggling to manage your time and are starting to feel overwhelmed and stressed out. A psychologist can help you manage these feelings and provide you with coping mechanisms to use in future stressful situations.
  2. Diagnose and offer treatment for mental health conditions: Mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD can be very hard to deal with on your own. Not only can a psychologist properly diagnose what you are going through, but provide you with the proper treatment to manage your symptoms and live a better life.
  3. Assist with the challenges of life: There are so many challenges we face in life such as relationship issues and major life transitions. Psychologists can virtually help you with any situation you are facing, and they enjoy helping their clients overcome them.

There’s no reason to feel judged or bad about seeking the help of a professional. Just by asking for a helping hand shows how strong you are and how dedicated you are to living a happier, healthier life.

Yeah, therapy is subjective so it's hard to rate a company based on one therapist encounter but I do have to include the company overall because it's essential to my comprehensive review. My therapist tried, was friendly and accommodating but just didn't work for me. The company overall is disjointed and maybe a little too big for proper management. You call a central number to get set up but when it comes to quitting the therapist it is up to you as the patient to do it all. Any attempt to log into the site gets redirected to an email link. The latest CSR I had unfortunately had a thick accent and was not really listening to me and my responses.

Hi I was a prior supervisor for Margaret in California where she did her post degree internship. She was a very skilled clinician who had many kids that were high-risk and lived in low-income families. Her relationship and interactive approach was very successful with these children and families. I was impressed with her skill and abilities. I would highly recommend her. Vicci
