Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I have done my own therapy and experienced the process of working on myself. I wanted to be able to support and help others to work through their own trauma, grief and loss.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I can do my best work with clients who want to heal and are willing to work on past issues that continue to affect them.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I like to work with all of my clients but I am most excited to work with veterans or people who have experienced trauma.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish they knew how much better they can be after therapy and that the process can be challenging at times but that helps them to grow.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because it offered the opportunity to work with private clients and sounded like it would be a good fit for me.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by poetry and literature, and also have a collection of inspirational quotes from my game. One of my favorites is "we are what we survive".
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Typically I use my first session as a chance to get to know my client and give them an opportunity to get to know me as well. It is difficult to open up to a stranger so I would prefer to start building a relationship so that a client feels comfortable talking to me.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Generally I would like to start building the therapeutic relationship and giving the individual a chance to ask questions so they are clear about the process of therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I was born and grew up in Australia. This gives me a multicultural background as well as a slight accent that often becomes a talking point.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
When I have time off I do internal martial arts and that helps me to stay fit and grounded. I am also passionate about gaming and at the end of the day I will usually jump on my game (Destiny 2) to relax.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a geek and interested in Star Trek, computers, gaming as well as anything related to space.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
One client I worked with was able to process her childhood trauma and attachment issues. She ultimately developed insight into the ways that this affected her current relationships and prevent repeating dysfunctional patterns of behavior.
