What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is person-centered, where the individual is at the center of decision-making and has control over the services they receive. The techniques I use are empathy, active listening, unconditional positive regard, congruence, addressing negative emotions, and motivational interviewing.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

With my person-centered therapy approach, the client will learn how to:

  • Clarify their thoughts and feelings
  • Increase self-acceptance and self-awareness
  • Understand and accept their present self
  • Become their ideal self and live their best life possible
  • Understand and accept their negative feelings as an opportunity to learn and grow
  • Achieve personal growth and emotional resilience
  • Resolve ambivalence and identify the importance of change
  • Increase confidence to make decisions and improve their quality of life

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they:

  • Become vulnerable and open to trying new experiences on their own.
  • Can trust their own thoughts and feelings as their intuition.
  • Can regulate their emotions both internally and in the external world around them.
  • Show a willingness to grow and change as needed to increase their quality of life.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy with bibliotherapy, or assigned reading by the therapist, to educate and empower themselves to live their best life possible.

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

To prepare for their first individual therapy session, the client can journal or jot down what is bothering them, before and in between sessions. Keep this journal handy to discuss in sessions. I recommend journaling when something is bothering you, when you have creative insight, first thing in the morning, and late at night. Anytime is a good time to journal because your story is unique and it matters.

Starting Individual therapy in Pearland

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Can individual therapy help me?
