Chinwe Nzerue-Obi is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has 4 years of experience in the mental health field. Chinwe has worked with and helped people of all ages overcome anger, anxiety, depression, grief, substance use/abuse, parenting and relationship issues, and much more. Chinwe is a Certified Christian Counselor for the benefit of clients who draw strength from their faith. She also holds a Multicultural Counseling Certification, enhancing her ability to work across ages, cultures, and countries.

Chinwe completed her Master of Education (MEd) in Counseling at the University of Houston. Prior to this, she was a practicing attorney from Nigeria, having graduated from the Counsel of Legal Education, Victoria Island, Lagos, with a law degree from the University of Jos. For Interventions, Chinwe's theoretical approach is solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) because she believes that when people “need help, help cannot wait.” She also uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help keep the mind and body whole.

No matter what the issue is, you too can be helped. When it is beyond us, rest assured that an adequate referral will be made. Chinwe believes that with determination and the will for a better life, you can work together to help you BE THE BEST YOU ARE CREATED TO BE.

Get to know Chinwe

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

For me I think Counseling comes more to me as a calling than any other thing. As a child people are drawn to me to talk to me and most do feel better after talking to me. I went into the Law profession to help people but with time realized that in a world that is litigious there would be more PEACE if I am helping people one on one. Even in other aspects of life or Real Estate people are sharing personal issues with me. So I decided to go back to school to actually do this job in a more professional manner.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I am trained and is equipped to work with everyone especially people going through; Depression, Anger, Addictions, Relationship/Family conflicts, Anxiety, Stress, Life changes, Divorce, Self Esteem, and so on.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Clients from age 11-75.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

Peace of Mind is everything and being Patient is an asset.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks is a work place where everyone THRIVES. They deeply care and clients and staff are not numbers BUT INDIVIDUAL PERSONS. I am passionate about what I do and Thriveworks provides that environment.

What inspires you?

Hope inspires me. Resolving issues, helping and making people happy is an inspiration to me.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients on first session would expect to be heard and will actually feel to have been heard. They will know and feel that that someone actually listens and cares about them.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In the first session I would want them to feel that they can trust me and that they would be better.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I am passionate about my job, I care about them on individual level and can't wait to meet with them.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

On off days, I walk, watch comedies, worship and attend concerts. I am also connecting with people on the phone a lot it all depends.

What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Highly principled, very humble and kind.
