As a former educator and school counselor, my journey as a counselor has been dedicated to empowering children, adolescents, teens, and families holistically by enhancing well-being and cultivating enduring relationships.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 23 years of experience helping individuals and families navigate challenges with confidence, clarity, and resilience. I specialize in supporting clients through stress, anxiety, life transitions, relational concerns, and healing from past trauma. My approach blends practical strategies, compassionate support, and a whole-person focus to help you build sustainable emotional wellbeing.
I earned my master’s degree in counseling from the University of North Texas, and my early work in education shaped my belief in individualized support and the importance of a nurturing environment. I draw from strength-based, solution-focused, and behavioral approaches to improve communication, manage stress, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Dr. Peta-gay Ledbetter is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) who has 16 years of experience as a psychotherapist providing care to adolescents, teens, and adults. Dr. Peta is most passionate about women’s issues including postpartum depression (dissertation) and treating survivors of sexual assault, sex trafficking, and domestic violence. As she has worked with clients throughout the years, she has found that, regardless of age, healthy relationships and boundary setting are typically common goals for clients as we all strive to live a healthy, productive life. Julie allows the client to lead the session while she helps keep it focused on the path toward healing and healthy life goals. Some of the therapies Julie uses include person-centered, Adlerian, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness.

I approach DBT as psychoeducational instruction. The best benefit is the objective approach because there is less judgment felt by clients when they are given examples as demonstrations.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) targets your personal challenges. You may work with your DBT therapist to maintain diary cards to monitor progress, emphasizing validation and support in the therapeutic relationship. DBT follows a stage-based approach, prioritizing crisis reduction initially and life satisfaction.
DBT was initially developed to address the needs of individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, its versatile approach has enabled its application to a wide range of mental health conditions, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, and anger issues.
The 4 pillars of DBT are mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) have distinct purposes and aren’t inherently superior or inferior to one another.
