My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy depends on the individual need. I find the best benefit in making the session more individualized to make the most out of therapy and to ensure there is comfort where the client's session is taking place.

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when they have minimal symptoms compared to their intake session and can identify more effective strategies to better manage those symptoms.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by doing homework assignments given at the end of therapy, ensuring their ability to engage in online therapy the night before and troubleshooting any barriers, updating all necessary software if needed, and practicing journaling.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first online therapy session, you can expect to be met with non-judgment when discussing your own individual needs for therapy. There should also be an expectation that Zoom will be utilized to facilitate the meetings, and it does meet HIPAA compliance.

For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state.
