As a clinician with over 30 years of experience, I have worked in multiple settings with widely differing populations and needs as a clinician, supervisor, and educator.
Dr. Brooks began his career in mental health and addictions counseling in 1992. Since that time, he has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings as varied as rural community clinics, hospitals, managing clinics in urban communities, directing an international employee assistance program, university counseling centers, and developing & managing treatment programs for executives and professionals. Populations he has served have been just as varied—addictions (both substance abuse and behavioral), mental health, individuals & families, adoption, indigent persons, athletes, executives, and professionals. He has held faculty positions at 6 universities and colleges in psychology and counseling programs.
Dr. Brooks earned his bachelor's in Psychology from East Carolina University, his master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a master's in Substance Abuse Counseling from ECU. After working for a few years, he returned to ECU and earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Employee Assistance Program counseling and later an EdS in Counselor Education. He completed his academic career at NCSU where he received his Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision. Dr. Brooks worked full-time as a therapist while in school and brings a wealth of practical as well as academic experiences to his practice. His counseling style is based in the philosophies of Stoicism, existentialism and the work of Viktor Frankl's logotherapy using the theories of cognitive development and the tools of cognitive behavioral and rational-emotive therapies
We have good days and bad days. Or we can say we have growing days. Growing days are those occasions when we are challenged to learn, change, and improve our lives and the lives of those that are most important to us.

As a queer woman of color, I bring both lived experience and clinical expertise to creating a safe, affirming, and culturally responsive space where you can feel seen, valued, and empowered to navigate life's challenges.
Hi, I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) dedicated to providing compassionate, affirming, and evidence-based care. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, stress, identity exploration, and self-esteem concerns. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking for support and personal growth, I provide a collaborative, nonjudgmental space where we can work together to help you build resilience, gain insight, and create meaningful, lasting change.
My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and tailored to your unique needs. I integrate CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered techniques to help you build practical coping skills, strengthen emotional resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. Together, we'll work at a pace that feels supportive and empowering.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone. I believe healing begins with feeling seen, heard, and supported. If you're ready to invest in yourself and create meaningful change, I'd be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.

Resetting means reconnecting with what truly matters, letting go of what no longer serves you, and intentionally aligning your actions with your values. I’m here to support and guide you through that journey.
I specialize in working with individuals navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief and trauma. My approach is client-centered and collaborative. I create a safe, supportive environment for healing and growth. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Winston-Salem State University in 2007 and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Behavioral Addictions from North Carolina A&T State University in 2012. Over 18 years, I've gained diverse experience across mental health settings. If you're facing a life shift, know you don't have to go through it alone. I'm here when you're ready to start.
Healing begins by reconnecting to what matters most. When facing pain or change, I help you slow down, listen inward, and release patterns that no longer serve you. I work with life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. My approach is collaborative. Healing happens when you feel safe and supported. We build strategies toward the life you want.
If you're ready to explore healing and growth, I'm here to walk alongside you with compassion. You don't navigate this alone. Your experiences deserve space to be held deeply with care and respect. When ready, please schedule an appointment. I look forward to supporting you as you move toward a life that feels more aligned, grounded, and authentically yours.

As a counselor with over 20 years of experience and as a person who has struggled with anxiety and depression, I am passionate about helping others reach their goals as they work toward increased mental and emotional well-being.

At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
