About Sherida

I specialize in working with individuals navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief and trauma. My approach is client-centered and collaborative. I create a safe, supportive environment for healing and growth. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Winston-Salem State University in 2007 and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Behavioral Addictions from North Carolina A&T State University in 2012. Over 18 years, I've gained diverse experience across mental health settings. If you're facing a life shift, know you don't have to go through it alone. I'm here when you're ready to start.

Healing begins by reconnecting to what matters most. When facing pain or change, I help you slow down, listen inward, and release patterns that no longer serve you. I work with life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. My approach is collaborative. Healing happens when you feel safe and supported. We build strategies toward the life you want.

If you're ready to explore healing and growth, I'm here to walk alongside you with compassion. You don't navigate this alone. Your experiences deserve space to be held deeply with care and respect. When ready, please schedule an appointment. I look forward to supporting you as you move toward a life that feels more aligned, grounded, and authentically yours.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a counselor because I’ve always been drawn to the quiet, powerful moments when someone feels truly seen. Throughout my life, I found myself sitting with people in their hardest seasons; listening to their stories, witnessing their pain, and watching the strength that emerges when they feel supported. Those experiences shaped me. They taught me that healing doesn’t happen in isolation; it happens in connection, in safety, and in the presence of someone who believes in your capacity to grow. Counseling became the natural path for me because it allows me to offer that kind of presence every day. I’m continually inspired by the resilience people carry, even when they don’t recognize it in themselves. Being able to help someone reconnect with their values, reclaim their voice, and move toward a life that feels more aligned and meaningful is an honor I don’t take lightly. At its core, I became a counselor to walk alongside people as they navigate the complexities of being human; the grief, the transitions, the anxiety, the hope, the healing. Supporting others in those moments feels like meaningful work, and it’s a privilege to be part of someone’s journey toward clarity, strength, and self‑compassion.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are ready to understand themselves more deeply and engage in a thoughtful, intentional therapeutic process. I'm especially effective with individuals navigating transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, substance abuse and trauma who value a structured evidenceinformed approach grounded in compassion.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

One thing I wish all clients knew is that the healing process isn't linear; and that slow, steady progress is still progress. therapy isn't about "fixing" yourself; it's about understanding your experiences, learning new ways to respond, and building a life that feels more aligned with who you are. Growth often happens in small, meaningful shifts, and those shifts add up. You don't have to have everything figured out to begin. What matters most is showing up, being open to the process, and allowing yourself the time and compassion you deserve.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In your first session, you can expect a calm, welcoming space where we begin exploring what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask thoughtful questions about your history, current concerns, and goals, while giving you plenty of room to share at a pace that feels comfortable. The focus is simply on getting to know you and building a foundation of trust. In the early stages of therapy, we work together to clarify your goals, identify patterns, and begin developing strategies that support your healing. These first sessions often bring insight, relief, and a sense of direction as you start to understand yourself more deeply. You can expect a collaborative process grounded in compassion, structure, and intention; a space where your voice guides the work and your growth unfolds steadily and meaningfully.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My work is shaped by a deep belief in the power of connection, compassion, and intentional self‑reflection. Throughout my life, I’ve seen how transformative it can be when someone feels genuinely heard and supported, and those experiences continue to guide how I show up as a therapist. I value steadiness, curiosity, and authenticity, and I bring those qualities into the room so clients can explore their stories without judgment or pressure. I’m also guided by the understanding that healing takes time and looks different for everyone. My own experiences navigating change, uncertainty, and growth have taught me the importance of slowing down, listening inward, and honoring the pace at which healing unfolds. These values help me create a therapeutic space where clients feel safe to be honest, to explore what’s beneath the surface, and to move toward a life that feels more aligned and meaningful. At the core, my practice is informed by a commitment to meeting people where they are; with respect, empathy, and a belief in their capacity to grow.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by taking time to understand each client’s story, strengths, and goals, then shaping our work around what will be most supportive for them. In early sessions, I listen closely for the patterns, values, and emotional themes that matter most. Clinically, I draw from a range of evidence‑based approaches, choosing interventions that fit your personality, pace, and the challenges you’re navigating; never a one‑size‑fits‑all model. I adjust the structure, depth, and style of therapy based on what helps you feel safe, engaged, and empowered. Some clients benefit from more reflective exploration, while others need practical strategies or grounding techniques. Many need a blend of both. Throughout the process, I check in regularly, collaborate openly, and make adjustments as your needs evolve. At its core, tailoring therapy means honoring your individuality; creating a space where your voice guides the work, your strengths are recognized, and your healing unfolds in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.
