About
As someone from a background that did not always understand the importance of mental health, I want to ensure that these needs are provided for all.
I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with 3 years of experience providing compassionate mental health care across the lifespan. My background as both a nurse and a provider has shaped my calm, steady, and holistic approach to treatment. I help individuals navigate anxiety, depression, stress, and daily challenges by creating a supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood.
I earned my master’s degree in nursing from Ohio University and use a patient-centered, safety-focused approach to guide care. I draw from methods such as motivational interviewing to tailor treatment to each person’s needs and goals, helping clients build insight, strengthen coping skills, and create meaningful change.
I am committed to offering a warm, collaborative space where you can explore your mental health needs at a pace that feels comfortable. Your story matters, and you deserve care that honors your voice. When you feel ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment so we can take the next steps in your healing together.

Growing up in a working-class, single-parent home shaped my empathy, and I bring personal and professional experience to meet each client with authenticity and care.
I am William Watson, a Licensed Social Worker Supervisee with 2 years of experience. Shaped by a working-class, single-parent upbringing, I bring lived experiences and strong clinical training to my work. I support adolescents and adults facing depression, anxiety, ADHD, stress, and life transitions. My goal is to provide steady guidance and practical support as a respectful partner who values honesty, feedback, and collaboration.
I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Arkansas and blend evidence-informed care with lived experience. My sessions emphasize practical tools, steady structure, and clear goals to help clients build confidence and skills between visits.
I know that starting therapy can feel overwhelming. That’s why I focus on creating a safe, respectful space where you can move at your own pace. If you are looking for practical strategies and a collaborative therapist who meets you where you are, I welcome you to reach out because you don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.

Mia Mickenberg is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has 15 years of experience in the mental health field, working with diverse populations, many different issues, and in various settings, including schools, homes, a college counseling center and a substance abuse prevention center. Mia enjoys working with and has a great deal of experience in counseling youth, adolescents, and adults.
Mia believes that counseling is not a one-size-fits-all process; everyone is different and their counseling process will differ as well. She provides a safe space to explore life experiences and help you to identify and learn new solutions and coping skills for life’s challenges. Through the ebbs and flows of life we can hit hard times. Mia's goal is to help you through these times. It can get better, and counseling can help.
Mia uses a holistic and integrative approach to counseling, because as people we are not just our minds or physical selves but a combination of the two. She draws from various theories and techniques, including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), reality, solution-focused, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, as well as incorporating the creative arts. Whether you're struggling, or want to work towards thriving and being the best version of YOU, Mia would love to join you on your path.
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

Psychologists are mental health professionals that provide psychotherapy services and diagnoses for their clients. They have more research-focused training than most therapists, as they are more medically educated and receive a more general education about therapeutic approaches and theory.
Thriveworks psychologists in McLean, VA provide standard psychotherapy services, tailoring treatment to each client and their unique concerns. However, they can also provide diagnoses to clients when appropriate, something that therapists and counselors cannot do. Finally, in some states in the U.S., they are allowed to prescribe medication.
Psychological treatment at Thriveworks McLean is very individualized and specific to each client, which means that the duration of treatment is often varied depending on a client’s condition or disorder, the state of their symptoms, and their specific goals.
Consider this hypothetical: After a really tough year, you feel like all of the pieces are finally falling into place. In just a few short weeks, you graduate from college; then, you move across the country and start your first full-time job. And your boyfriend has been there to support you every step of the way. You couldn’t be more thankful for him or more excited for your future together… until he tells you there won’t be a future together. He’s been harboring difficult feelings, of which he has a hard time explaining. But you get it. He doesn’t want to stay in a committed relationship—he wants to explore and grow on his own.
Life is characterized by these ups and downs. One moment, we might feel on top of the world, and in the next we might feel like the world is out to get us. We never truly known what the next day will bring. What we do know, however, is that we can get through the downs in life with a little help and support. While our loved ones can prove helpful, psychologists can offer professional assistance during our times of need. They can help us through a tough breakup, major changes in life, grief, mental illness, and more.
“If positive psychology teaches us anything, it is that all of us are a mixture of strengths and weaknesses. No one has it all, and no one lacks it all.” –Christopher Peterson
Thriveworks McLean, VA has psychologists on our team who would be more than happy to meet with you. They can help you capitalize on your strengths and improve your weaknesses; they can guide you through the “downs” in life; and they can provide you with support throughout the entirety of your life journey. The bottom line is that if you think you could benefit from working with a mental health professional, we are here. To schedule an appointment, just call our office at (571) 589-4042.
Due to their wide range of skills and areas of experience, psychologists have a unique ability to help us with many different challenges. Their main goal is to help us improve (or maintain) our mental wellbeing, as well as find greater happiness or success in life. To accomplish this goal, we might have to have some difficult discussions with our psychologist, be open to new ideas, and work to replace some negative habits with positive habits. This will all depend on your specific needs and goals, of which you will communicate with your psychologist at the start of treatment.
Let’s delve into the main functionalities of a psychologist, of which we just touched on. Again, what you work on with your psychologist will depend on you. Still, their main goals will be to help you…
