What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is identifying clients' goals and working at their pace. I prefer, enjoy, and find the best benefit in letting the client identify their goals and the pace (with my support, if needed) because a lot of times the client has the answer already within themselves! (They just need a little assistance in finding it.)

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the following tools in individual therapy:

  • Identifying, understanding, and accepting emotions
  • Challenging negative thoughts and creating alternate thoughts
  • Creating more intentionality in one’s life (e.g. scheduling, planning, communication, reflection)
  • Mindfulness practices – creating more awareness and intentionality
  • Self-compassion/acceptance – ways to compliment oneself and appreciate the differences that we all have
  • Identifying opportunities to engage in more self-compassion/self-care practices
  • Identifying current coping strategies; finding new coping strategies

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they are able to utilize tools that they have learned in therapy in their day-to-day life and feel relief and more confidence since the onset of treatment.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy with journaling, meditation, exercise, socialization, reading, and other mindfulness practices.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for your first individual therapy session, I encourage you to identify the items you want to focus on and have an answer to: “I will know therapy has benefitted me when _____.” (What’s your goal of coming to therapy?)

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your speicifc needs and with wom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in The Woodlands, TX accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

Sigmund Freud once stated, “Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise.” But how often are humans completely honest with themselves? We might jump through hoops to avoid harsh truths and discomfort. We might dislike it when our friends or significant others call us out on our behaviors. Facing ourselves in the mirror can sometimes feel intimidating or distressing. But it takes a lot of energy to avoid our true selves. What if you could free up some of that energy for positive change?

The licensed mental health providers at Thriveworks in The Woodlands, TX offer clients a safe space in which to explore their goals and issues. They provide a secure, insightful environment in which to face oneself, all from the comfort of your own home. Online counseling at Thriveworks is traditional therapy via an online therapy platform. This means that none of the length or quality of in-person therapy is sacrificed in virtual counseling sessions. The licensed therapists at Thriveworks in The Woodlands Township, TX are here to help you achieve your goals.

Is Online Therapy Just As Effective As In-Person Counseling?

Studies have shown that online therapy is just as effective as in-person counseling, thus it offers a great value to clients. At Thriveworks in The Woodlands, TX, online talk therapy can be done live, face to face, through HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. In these live chats via Thriveworks’ online therapy program, clients can access the premium mental health services they need with these additional benefits:

  • They may not need to take time off work or hire babysitters to attend counseling sessions.
  • They can travel for work or pleasure and still make their sessions.
  • They can speak to their counselor from familiar surroundings, which might help them open up emotionally.
  • They can save money on the cost of traveling to an office or clinic.
  • They can hold specialized sessions with a licensed counselor who may not live in their area.
  • They can have group therapy sessions more easily because everyone doesn’t have to be in the same physical location at the same time.
  • They can still have therapy sessions even if someone is ill or has mobility issues.

How Can I Fix My Mental Health Problems?

If you find that you’re experiencing a psychological or behavioral issue that negatively impacts your daily functioning, it may be time to consult a mental health professional. At Thriveworks in The Woodlands, TX, clients can choose from the following providers:

  • Psychiatrists (MDs), who do psychotherapy (talk therapy) and can also prescribe medications to clients experiencing mental health conditions like depression or anxiety.
  • Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs), who can also treat mental health conditions with therapy and prescription medication.
  • Psychologists (PhDs or PsyDs), who can be counseling psychologists or clinical psychologists who apply a variety of psychotherapy techniques.
  • Licensed professional counselors (LPCs), who help clients find solutions to specific issues, such as substance abuse or bulimia.
  • Licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), who do counseling and guide clients to helpful social services.
  • Licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), who do couples therapy and family therapy.
