What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in online counseling is to encourage a relaxed atmosphere with very little formality. I want a client to feel they are talking with a trusted friend. It doesn't matter if the dog barks or the cat jumps in your lap or the kids want a cookie. It's life and we will just keep rolling.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

I teach the same skills online as I do in face-to-face counseling but I might also email videos or handouts that can be more helpful.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in online counseling when they report they have successfully used the concepts in their relationships.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online counseling by using handouts, reading articles/books, or using videos that are recommended by the therapist.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for starting online counseling, make sure all your connections are working properly and you are in a setting where you can be comfortable for about 55-60 minutes. Make sure your audio works especially.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your speicifc needs and with wom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Winston-Salem, NC accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

You’re feeling anxious, lonely, and unfulfilled. You don’t have a job, your relationship is lacking, and your gym (better known as your escape) is closed indefinitely. You long to talk to somebody, anybody—just not your friends or family members. You don’t want them to know how truly unhappy you are. They would worry too much.

The counselors at Thriveworks Winston-Salem, NC would be happy to talk to you. These individuals can provide that unbiased guidance and support, not to mention they have professional knowledge, skills, and experience in the mental health field. This means that they can offer expert help in terms of addressing your anxiety, your loneliness, your lack of fulfillment, and any other challenges you might be facing.

Better yet, the counselors at Thriveworks Winston-Salem, NC can provide you with online counseling. This means that you can have your counseling appointment right from home, as long as you have a phone, computer, or another device that connects to the internet. Online counseling offers comfort, convenience, and additional benefits. If you’re in need of mental health services, it might be the right counseling option for you! To schedule an online counseling appointment at Thriveworks Winston-Salem or learn more about our online counseling opportunities, just call our office at (336) 231-3071.

Online Counseling Services: How Does It Work?

Online counseling is meant to provide people with mental health services from a distance. In other words, you can attend your counseling session from wherever you need or want to, so long as you have phone or computer access. Here at Thriveworks Winston-Salem, there are two main online counseling options to choose from: telephone counseling and video counseling:

  1. What is telephone counseling? Telephone counseling is simply working with a mental health professional over the phone. Instead of going into the office for your appointment, you’ll await your counselor’s call at the agreed upon day and time.
  2. What is video counseling? Video counseling is working with a mental health professional over video. Rather than meeting your counselor in-person, you attend your session via video using a link that your counselor will provide you shortly after scheduling your appointment.

If you have a mental health challenge or another life issue on your hands, consider working with a mental health professional at Thriveworks Winston-Salem. We have counselors, therapists, and psychologists, all with unique skills, knowledge, and specialties. Whatever it is you’re dealing with, they will do their best to help you work through it and get to a happier place.

What Are A Few Online Counseling Benefits?

Online counseling is valuable service, one that improves access to mental health care. Certain individuals can’t commit to in-person counseling sessions, due to their physical state, their proximity to the office, other commitments, and additional reasons. In these instances, online counseling proves to be a valuable option that allows these individuals to still receive the mental health care they’re looking for. Here are a few online counseling benefits that these clients enjoy:

  • Attending their session comfortably from home
  • Skipping out on the long or inconvenient commute to the office
  • Choosing from flexible appointment options
  • Making meaningful progress with their therapist
  • Feeling empowered to open up about difficult subjects

Online counseling is low-hassle. In addition to the above, it removes a lot of unfortunate or inconvenient factors from the equation. For example, if you choose to work with your counselor online, you don’t have to worry about running late to your appointment due to traffic or car trouble. Also, online counseling is an affordable therapy option. Many insurances pay for online counseling, by telephone and video.
