What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

I encourage my clients, through a person-centered approach, to feel safe by creating a space free from judgment that allows for full self-expression and for them to connect with their most authentic selves.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

The tools I teach primarily depend on what my client needs. This often includes how to process and regulate emotions, develop effective self-talk, communicate and set boundaries, and stay in the present moment even in the face of challenges.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

Progress can take different forms. Clients often tell me their situation is better, they feel better, or others close to them see a difference. In therapy, I often see a client being more honest with themselves which enables them to accept where they are at and feel the feelings or thoughts they have been resisting or pushing down.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients I see who tend to have better outcomes often engage in consistent self-care such as exercising, meditation, fostering important relationships, and engaging in personal hobbies.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

I recommend my clients be prepared to communicate what their reasons are for seeking therapy and what they hope to accomplish through therapy.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your speicifc needs and with wom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

Our Thriveworks therapists at Thriveworks in Waco, TX accept most major forms of insurance, which means that many of our clients only pay $0-$50 co-pay per session. However, there are also self-pay options that sit around $200 per session, depending on the service and location, for those who are out-of-network.

Need more help deciding?

Heston knows that he’s been feeling off for a while now, but isn’t sure exactly what’s causing his negative emotions. Nothing has seemed to change in his personal life, making him wonder whether he’s just feeling down for no reason. But he’s not as interested in hobbies, friendships, or dating opportunities as he was only a few months ago. Things seem to be rapidly changing for Heston; he wonders if there’s anything he can do to get a better handle on his mental health.

Although Heston knows that he may feel overwhelmed on his own, he also realizes that talking with a mental health professional will offer him the opportunity to start moving forward. And considering how busy he often finds himself, Heston knows that online therapy could help him to alleviate some of the negative emotions he feels. Even though his first online therapy session might not instantly fix everything, Heston hopes that by being honest and open, he can make the most out of each session and start to experience relief.

Like Heston, you might also be wanting to find healing and a newfound quality of life through talking with a therapist or counselor. At Thriveworks in Waco, TX, our online services can help you start prioritizing your mental health without having to throw off your schedule or worry about commuting to an office. If you’re interested in the ways that online therapy could benefit you, call Thriveworks in Waco, TX to find out more, and to get matched with a provider who cares.

Why Choose Online Therapy?

Online therapy offers a secure and convenient way to access quality mental health care from Thriveworks from home, the office, or while on the go. By meeting with your therapist or counselor virtually you’ll be able to connect with a provider on your own terms, eliminating unnecessary stress and inconveniences. Rest assured that:

  • Online therapy is safe and secure: We abide by the strictest HIPAA regulations to protect your privacy and personal information.
  • Online therapy is effective: Online therapy provides the same level of professionalism and attention as an in-person session.

Online sessions can be a simple solution if you want to attend therapy or counseling, but are held back by your work schedule, family obligations, or health issues that prevent you from being mobile. And for those who feel nervous about talking to a therapist in person, it might be easier to communicate with a therapist when you can talk virtually from the space of your choosing.

Make family counseling or relationship therapy a possibility with virtual scheduling options from Thriveworks. Online therapy can also be a great way for individuals, couples, or family members to process:

  • Anxiety-inducing events like financial hardship or losing a job
  • Relationship or marital issues
  • Depression, or feelings of loneliness
  • Intense feelings of grief or anger
  • Tension between relatives

Should I Talk to an Online Therapist?

  • An unusually short temper

Thriveworks helped me realize that I do believe people can change. I’m not the person I was three months ago, broken and fearful. I’m healthy and happy and for the first time being kind to myself. Thank you for giving me my life back.
